amiibo is a line of near field communication devices available for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U systems. They are figures or cards of Nintendo characters, as well as third-party characters that have appeared in Super Smash Bros. games. amiibo are scanned by tapping them on the Wii U GamePad, New Nintendo 3DS touch screen, or on the NFC reader/writer for the Nintendo 3DS.
  +
  +
amiibo are divided into different series, based on the game or game series that particular figure or card is associated with. The same character can appear in different amiibo series, but functions the same in almost all games. amiibo cards have also been released, but so far only those based on Animal Crossing (series).

  +
Five LZS amiibo based on their SSB4 appearances have been released. Super Smash Bros. series amiibo are released in waves in order to stagger releases. Each wave includes several figures that are released at the same time. Waves are composed of different figures and have different release dates in different regions.
  +
  +
A Wolf Link amiibo is also set to be released alongside TPHD.

Functionality
ReDeads are recurring enemies in Series. They are tall, zombie-like monsters. While their appearance changes from game to game, their behavior has remained relatively the same - namely their tactic of staying in place and using a petrifying scream to freeze nearby intruders in their tracks. While their prey is stunned, they will walk over and attack. ReDeads are typically common to the 3D console Zelda games, but have also appeared in the 2D-styled game, TFH.

  +
<!--Only add games that Zelda-specific amiibo have special functionality with. If scanning a Zelda amiibo results in a generic reward possible by scanning any other amiibo, do not add it.-->

  +
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U
ReDeads share many similarities with Gibdos, which also behave identically in the 3D console games. A variant of the ReDead which carries a heavy sword, known as a Knight, appears in TP.

  +
<!--first release anywhere: 2014-11-21-->
  +
In SSB4, scanning a compatible amiibo (which all Super Smash Bros. series amiibo are) puts the scanned character in the game as a Figure Player. A Figure Player is an AI opponent that can be trained, leveled up, and customized in order to be used in battles against other players and Figure Players.

  +
amiibo functionality was added to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS in the Version 1.0.5 patch, which was released on February 10, 2015 worldwide; Super Smash Bros. for Wii U had amiibo functionality at launch.

In OoT, ReDeads are brown and wear wooden masks. They usually appear in small groups or sometimes alone in dead or ruinous places, such as tombs or dungeons, and make their presence known with periodic, low-pitched moans. ReDeads are encountered the earliest inside the Royal Family's Tomb, where they gather in a chamber leading to the room where Link learns the Sun's Song. They can later be found in Castle Town's ruined market place, presumbly as the town's deceased residents, and at the Bottom of the Well and inside the Shadow Temple.

  +
In Hyrule Warriors and HWL, scanning an amiibo gives the player an amiibo reward the first time it is scanned each day, with some amiibo for The Legend of Zelda characters giving special rewards. Up to five amiibo rewards can be obtained each day. A Medal is achieved after receiving 100 amiibo rewards. amiibo functionality was added to Hyrule Warriors in the Version 1.4.0 patch, which was released on November 27, 2014 worldwide; Hyrule Warriors Legends will have amiibo functionality from launch.

  +
Scanning a Link or Toon Link amiibo unlocks the Spinner if it is not already unlocked. Otherwise, scanning a Link or Toon Link amiibo rewards the player with a random third tier weapon for Link rated 3 stars or higher. Link and Toon Link can both yield amiibo rewards the same day.
ReDeads can either be found idly standing slightly hunched over or sitting crouched down in the fetal position, until Link approaches, at which they will rise and slowly shuffle towards him. When Link is within their range, they will paralyze him with a bone-chilling scream, jump onto his back if close enough, and gradually drain his health by squeezing him. Link will then have to struggle free with a series of A and B-Button presses. Once released from their hold, Link can either strike back with the Sword or run away to attack from a safer distance. ReDeads, however, have a flaw in that they are blind. Link can walk by slowly or with the Iron Boots equipped to pass by unnoticed. If Link takes out or puts away any weapon, or runs near them, they will hear him and attempt to paralyze him with their vivid scream. Interestingly, Link cannot become paralyzed in areas with a fixed camera position, namely Castle Town's market, possibly because of the way the camera usually zooms in when the monster screams.

  +
Scanning a Zelda, Ganondorf or Sheik amiibo rewards the player with a random third tier weapon for the scanned character rated 3 stars or higher. Zelda and Sheik can both yield amiibo rewards the same day. If the third tier is not unlocked for that character, the player can receive a third tier weapon for any character.
ReDeads are quite slow, both in motion and recovering from an attack, making them fairly easy to slay, particularly if Link can get behind them. When a ReDead is slain, any other ReDeads in the area will walk towards and crouch beside the fallen ReDead until its body fades away, ignoring Link and making killing the whole group easier. This behavior is never explained in the game, although plausible explanations could be that they are mourning its death or even consuming its corpse.

  +
In Hyrule Warriors Legends, scanning Wolf Link with give a reward different to non-specifically supported amiibo; it has not yet been announced what it will be. In Hyrule Warriors, scanning a Wolf Link amiibo will act the same as scanning any other non-specifically supported amiibo.
ReDeads in Ocarina of Time are quite susceptible to the Sun's Song, which will paralyze them for a short while when played. They are also weak to fire-based attacks, such as Din's Fire or the Fire Arrows.

  +
Scanning any other amiibo rewards the player with a random weapon rated 3 stars or lower, a random Material, or a random amount of Rupees.
Majora's Mask
In MM, ReDeads appear mostly the same as in Ocarina of Time, although with several differences, particularly in their behavior and weaknesses. While ReDeads will continue to emit a piercing scream and slowly approach Link when he comes close, if Link wears the Garo's Mask, Gibdo Mask, or the Captain's Hat, the ReDeads will inexplicably dance and ignore Link. A Gossip Stone offers a possible explanation of this peculiarity by stating that the ReDeads of Ikana Castle were once a troupe of performers. While wearing either one of these masks, Link can freely attack the ReDeads without any threat of harm, so long as he does not take off the mask.

  +
Mario Kart 8
ReDeads in Majora's Mask are weak to beams of light reflected off of the Mirror Shield, which will kill them instantly. They also retain their weakness to fire, and can be defeated with the Fire Arrows.

  +

In Mario Kart 8, scanning a Link or Toon Link amiibo unlocks the Link Racing Suit for Mii characters.

In TWW, ReDeads appear significantly different as turquoise, skeletal beings with earrings. They mainly appear in the Earth Temple, as well as in the Ghost Ship, the Savage Labyrinth, Ganon's Tower, and unusually in the sewer tunnels of the Private Oasis. Their method of attack is the same as their earlier incarnations, often hiding in coffins and leaping out when Link gets too close. Instead of draining his life, they will bite down and deal only one Heart-worth of damage before releasing him, but will quickly try to attack again. Unlike those of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, these ReDeads do not appear to be blind, as they will look up at Link whenever he moves close to them; in fact, while their eyes are initially black and lifeless, they glow red when they scream and advance upon their target. They cannot be fooled by walking slowly, and will always attack once Link comes within range.

In TFH, ReDeads appear in the Lone Labyrinth and Grim Temple of The Ruins. They appear and behave slightly differently, as their clay-like bodies are partially melted to the ground, which somewhat resembles Dead Hand. They are able to dissolve their bodies into a puddle to quickly move around the area. They also wear bright, blue masks. When one of the Links draws near, they emit a piercing scream that travels around a shockwave radius. Any of the Links caught in this shockwave will become petrified to the ReDead's scream. The monster will then approach the nearest Link and proceed to grab and repeatedly bite him, which will drain the Links' shared health. The other Links can come to their teammate's rescue by attacking the ReDead, which will free the trapped Link.

  +
In Yoshi's Woolly World, scanning a specifically compatible amiibo other than Yoshi (which all Super Smash Bros. series The Legend of Zelda character amiibo are) unlocks a pattern for Yoshi based on that character. Although the game treats Link Yoshi and Toon Link Yoshi as different patterns, they look identical.

  +
Scanning a non-specifically compatible amiibo (which Wolf Link is) will unlock a generic amiibo pattern for Yoshi.
Under most circumstances, ReDeads can only be attacked once they are stunned by an item, such as the Gust Jar or the Gripshot. This allows the Links to attack them during this brief period. They can also be attacked from afar with the Fire Gloves.

In Super Mario Maker, scanning a compatible amiibo creates a Mystery Mushroom that grants Mario the appropriate 8-bit costume of the scanned character. It is also possible to unlock these costumes without scanning an amiibo through the 100 Mario Challenge, and some costumes must be unlocked this way. In addition to these, there are also special costumes that are only unlocked by completing Event Courses, which are official courses released by Nintendo. Each costume transforms Mario into the likeness of that character. While the costumes still share Mario's innate abilities and limitations, each costume now makes a special pose by pressing up on the Control Stick or Control Pad, and plays unique tunes when Mario acquires the costume, reaches the Goal Pole, or loses a life. There exist costumes of Link, Zelda, Sheik, Toon Link, Ganondorf, as well as Tingle and Totem Link (based on the Links from TFH).

The Link costume allows Mario to hold the Triforce aloft by pressing up on the Control Stick or Control Pad. Running while wearing the costume and quickly turning around will result in the Link costume to stab outward with his Sword. Its associated jingles are from the original The Legend of Zelda: the item obtainment tune will play when the costume is first obtained, the Triforce Piece obtainment tune will play when the goal pole is reached, and the music from when Link is defeated in the Japanese version of the game will play when Mario loses a life.
In SSB4, they again appear as a Trophy, describing them as monsters seemingly made of clay.<ref>{{Cite|These creatures may look like zombies, but ReDeads weren't human to begin with.   +
The Zelda costume allows Mario to temporarily transform into Sheik by pressing up. Its associated jingles are from A Link to the Past: the item obtainment tune will play when the costume is first obtained, the introduction to "Zelda's Lullaby" will play when the goal pole is reached, and the music from when Link is defeated will play when Mario loses a life.

Platforms Nintendo 3DS
Wii U

amiibo is a line of near field communication devices available for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U systems. They are figures or cards of Nintendo characters, as well as third-party characters that have appeared in Super Smash Bros. games. amiibo are scanned by tapping them on the Wii U GamePad, New Nintendo 3DS touch screen, or on the NFC reader/writer for the Nintendo 3DS.

amiibo are divided into different series, based on the game or game series that particular figure or card is associated with. The same character can appear in different amiibo series, but functions the same in almost all games. amiibo cards have also been released, but so far only those based on Animal Crossing.

The Legend of Zelda amiibo

Five Template:LZS amiibo based on their Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U appearances have been released. Super Smash Bros. series amiibo are released in waves in order to stagger releases. Each wave includes several figures that are released at the same time. Waves are composed of different figures and have different release dates in different regions.

A Wolf Link amiibo is also set to be released alongside Twilight Princess HD.

Generic Support

These are non-The Legend of Zelda series games that support all amiibo, but do not have non-generic support for any The Legend of Zelda character amiibo.

Functionality

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, scanning a compatible amiibo (which all Super Smash Bros. series amiibo are) puts the scanned character in the game as a Figure Player. A Figure Player is an AI opponent that can be trained, leveled up, and customized in order to be used in battles against other players and Figure Players.

amiibo functionality was added to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS in the Version 1.0.5 patch, which was released on February 10, 2015 worldwide; Super Smash Bros. for Wii U had amiibo functionality at launch.

Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors Legends

Artwork of Link riding the Spinner in Hyrule Warriors
Artwork of Link riding the Spinner in Hyrule Warriors

In Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors Legends, scanning an amiibo gives the player an amiibo reward the first time it is scanned each day, with some amiibo for The Legend of Zelda characters giving special rewards. Up to five amiibo rewards can be obtained each day.

Scanning a non-specifically compatible amiibo (which Wolf Link is) will unlock a generic amiibo pattern for Yoshi.

Super Mario Maker

In Super Mario Maker, scanning a compatible amiibo creates a Mystery Mushroom that grants Mario the appropriate 8-bit costume of the scanned character. It is also possible to unlock these costumes without scanning an amiibo through the 100 Mario Challenge, and some costumes must be unlocked this way. In addition to these, there are also special costumes that are only unlocked by completing Event Courses, which are official courses released by Nintendo. Each costume transforms Mario into the likeness of that character. While the costumes still share Mario's innate abilities and limitations, each costume now makes a special pose by pressing up on the Control Stick or Control Pad, and plays unique tunes when Mario acquires the costume, reaches the Goal Pole, or loses a life.[2][3][4] There exist costumes of Link, Zelda, Sheik, Toon Link, Ganondorf, as well as Tingle and Totem Link (based on the Links from Tri Force Heroes).

The Sheik costume allows Mario to temporarily transform into Zelda by pressing up. Its associated jingles are from Ocarina of Time: the item obtainment tune will play when the costume is first obtained, the music from when Link first meets Zelda will play when the goal pole is reached, and the music from when Link first meets Sheik will play when Mario loses a life.

The Toon Link costume allows Mario to pull out the Deku Leaf when jumping. Its associated jingles are from The Wind Waker: the item obtainment tune will play when the costume is first obtained, the music from when Link completes the Boating Course will play when the goal pole is reached, and the music from when Link is thrown into a cell in the Forsaken Fortress will play when Mario loses a life.

The Ganondorf costume's associated jingles are from A Link to the Past: the music from when Ganon leaves Agahnim's body will play when the costume is first obtained, the introduction to Ganon's theme will play when the goal pole is reached, and the music from when a boss is defeated will play when Mario loses a life.

The Tingle costume can only be unlocked through the 100 Mario Challenge. It allows Mario to strike a pose by pressing up. Its associated jingles are from various games: the "Kooloo-Limpah" jingle will play when the costume is first obtained, the music from when Link rescues Epona from Lon Lon Ranch in Ocarina of Time will play when the goal pole is reached, and the event failure tune from Majora's Mask will play when Mario loses a life.

The Totem Link costume is based on the three Links from Tri Force Heroes forming a Totem, featuring Blue on the bottom, Red in the middle, and Green on top. It can only be unlocked by clearing the Tri Force Heroes Event Course. The Totem Link costume allows Mario to pose with the Sword, Boomerang, and Bow by pressing up. Its associated jingles include 8-bit versions of the item obtainment jingle and the introduction of the Tri Force Heroes main theme.[5]

New Style Boutique 2: Fashion Forward

Scanning a Zelda amiibo unlocks the Princess Tiara, which is based on Princess Zelda's tiara.[7] Scanning a Sheik amiibo unlocks the Sheikah Scarf, a scarf bearing the Sheikah symbol.[8]

This includes all The Legend of Zelda character amiibo in the Japanese release, and all The Legend of Zelda character amiibo except Zelda and Sheik in the European and Australian releases.

It is currently unknown what specific kind of features these amiibo will have in the game.
