Temple of Courage

Welcome to the Temple of Courage, where various characters from the Legend of Zelda series battle out on a semi-weekly basis! You, the people, are the deciding factors in these matches. Functionally, all of these battles are popularity contests and not "battles" as such. For instance, in a boss vs. boss fight, we suggest that you vote for the one you like the most rather than whether or not one enemy would beat another in a legit fight. This is only a suggestion, though.

If you have an account and have at least 50 mainspace edits, you can suggest a fight or vote or comment on others on the suggestions sub-article.

  • You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in a competition between the two combatants that week.
  • You may only vote once.
  • If you are a user, please include your vote in the user section. If you are not a user, please include your vote in the anonymous section. However, any votes put in the anonymous sections will only count as a half vote.
  • When a new fight is created (the process should take no longer than a week, give or take a couple of days), the votes from the last fight will be totaled and winner decided.
  • Please sign your vote (unless you want to be counted as an anonymous vote) with a link to your username after your voting text.
  • Don't try to rig the votes by entering multiple votes; these pages are regularly patrolled and you WILL face consequences if you are caught.
  • A short notification must be made before changing the fight.
  • Please don't use talk templates.

Week 125: Marin vs. Medli

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLADIES AND GENTLEMENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! Zeldapedia, in accordance with the Law of Cathartic Fun, Paragraph 13, §4.2, brings you the awesome spectacle that is the TEMPLE. OF. COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!!! This week, we have two popular female islanders from different epochs of the series, both of whom encounter the hero early in his quest(s), only to later play a larger role in their respective games, when the hero must backtrack to bring them with him to overcome his obstacles. They both also carry harps, although only one of them uses theirs in the game in which she appears. Let's hear the Tale of the Tape!

In the light blue corner is the very maiden who found the shipwrecked hero on the shores of Koholint Island and brought him safely to her house. The hero initally mistakes his kind rescuer for the Princess of Destiny, but the two grow a mutual bond of affection regardless. She is a talented singer, having awoken the loser of last week's fight with her dulcet tones. Revealed to be a figment of the Wind Fish's imagination at the end of the game, she nonetheless appears to have fulfilled her dream of becoming a seagull in a secret ending scene. THIS. IS. MAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRIIIIIIIN!!!

In the blue/gray corner is a young female Rito, and apprentice attendant to Valoo, patron Deity of the Rito people. She is a sensitive, caring, and brave person who aids the hero in calming down Valoo, restoring peace to Dragon Roost Island. Later, she is awakened as a descendant of the line of Earth Sages sworn to protect the Earth Temple, and safeguard the Master Sword's Power to Repel Evil. As a team, they brave the dangers of the Earth Temple, and together with the spirit of Medli's ancestor, they restore the Master Sword's power. THIS. IS. MEEEEEEEEEEEEDLIIIIIIIIII!!!

And now, these two ladies will do battle in the ring, and we hope that none of them are hurt too bad. LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLET'S GET RRRRRRRRRREAAAAAAAAAAADYYYYYYYY TO RUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMBLE!!!

Votes for Marin

  1. This is one of the toughest calls I have encountered in recent times. I like both of these characters a whole lot, and they both really represent different (and some similar) aspects quintessential to a truly good and memorable character. Nevertheless, as much as I liked Medli, Marin is just the superior one here. There was just something, I don't know, intangible to the way the relationship between Marin and Link; regardless of whether it's love or not, it's there, and it's almost real. One of the most believable romances/friendships in video gaming. Needless to say, Marin was the first great female character I encountered in gaming, and she is still one of the best out there. And you know the DKs wrote "Moon Over Marin" about her... err, right? Please say yes. Sweet and friendly, yet brave and dreaming. It's just... Marin, you know? You do.</walloftext> --AuronKaizer! 23:28, November 21, 2010 (UTC)
  2. What he said. You put it perfectly, Kaizer. --Ricorum (talk) 23:35, November 21, 2010 (UTC)
  3. I just like Marin better. --EveryDayJoe45 (talk) 02:22, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

  1. Aside from Princess Zelda, Marin was the first major female character in the series, and she's still the best. Medli, at least in her current form, would not even exist if it weren't for Marin.
  2. They're both very likeable characters, and this is a really tough decision. But Marin is an integral part of her respective game, whereas Medli is really only interacted with on a few very specific occasions within the game. Marin is literally the girl of Link's dreams, and seeing her fade away at the end when the island disappears is a truly sad memory that always stuck with me after finishing the game. Plus, you have to love her angry outbursts when Link attacks a Cucco in front of her.

Votes for Medli

  1. I'm a big fan of Medli. Black Dragon Laguz 23:54, November 21, 2010 (UTC)
  2. Medli all the way! I cried when you went back to dragon roost and prince Komali was there and he'd picked some flowers and he was asking where she was and he'd never see her again and it was so sad! I actually did cry. No joke. Squeezycheesecake
  3. I'm perhaps a bit biased since I haven't played Link's Awakening (which is one reason I'm looking forward to the 3DS), but Medli is one of my favorite characters in the entire series. There isn't much to say about her relationship with Link, but I found that her relationship with Komali (one of the few dynamic characters this side of Majora's Mask) to be very tangible and memorable. When she is realizes she is destined to be the Earth Sage, her reaction to her newfound knowledge seems very human, despite the fact she is a Rito. Her innovative role in the Earth Temple is one of the main reasons said temple is, in my opinion, among the series's best. Medli is, simply put, an integral part of the experience of The Wind Waker. Jedimasterlink (talk) 00:20, November 22, 2010 (UTC)
  4. Tough choice, but in the end I've gotta go with Medli. --Nayru's Maiden (talk) 06:54, November 22, 2010 (UTC)
  5. Marin is great and all but Medli is a Rito!!--Ingo the great (talk) 19:58, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

Week 124: Rem vs. Walrus

12 > 11.5
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLADIES AND GENTLEMENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!! Zeldapedia presents to you, theTEMPLE. OF. COOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRAAAAAAAGE!!!, a joint Wikia-Zeldapedia production. This week, we have two lazy, sleepy contestants.

In the reddish brown corner, we have a Hylian shoe maker. Our green-clad hero meets him after realizing he cannot cross the Castor Wilds. When our hero enters his shop, he falls straight asleep. The only way the hero can wake him is by using a foul-smelling wake-up mushroom. THIS. IS. RRRRRREMMMMMM!!!

And in the blue corner is an enormous sleeping animal. He is blocking the path to Yarna Desert and the Animal Village, and our hero must get past him. In order to do so, he brings his charming feminine companion, Marin, to the animal's location, and she sings for him. After waking, he dances and falls into the ocean. THIS. IS. THE WAAAAALLLRRRRUSSSS!!!

And so, while we wait for voting to start, we would like you to file into the stadium to watch these two contestants duke it out. Well, unless one of them falls asleep. In any case, LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLET'S GET RRRRRRRRRRRRREAAAAAAAADY TO RUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMBLE!!!!

Votes for Rem

  1. Yay, I'm a crowd of one. Anyway, I didn't realize how in-depth his name was until after I already beat the game. Now to catch up on my REM sleep. TheMidna 02:53, November 16, 2010 (UTC)
  2. It seems to me that more thought was put into Rem than into the Walrus. Jedimasterlink (talk) 17:24, November 16, 2010 (UTC)
  3. I thought I would go with the Walrus, but I just think Rem has a better story. --EveryDayJoe45 (talk) 18:57, November 16, 2010 (UTC)
  4. sleeping on the job is awesome Meep Meep (talk) 05:20, November 17, 2010 (UTC)
  5. Simple. He has a more in-depth story that's more interesting than a roadblock. And he helps make nice shoes.PhoenixdaughterAM 20:41, November 17, 2010 (UTC)
  6. I shall cast a vote, and it shall be for Rem! ~RavensMill
  7. Meep meep is 100% correct :)--Yorick141 (talk) 18:07, November 19, 2010 (UTC)
  8. The walrus is nothing but an obstacle, while Rem is an obstacle who ultimately gives you a useful item. No question about it. Darbus (talk) 12:39, November 20, 2010 (UTC)
  9. Rem is way cooler =].--Ingo the great (talk) 23:17, November 20, 2010 (UTC)
  10. Rem is awsum--Tj hoffman (talk) 02:59, November 21, 2010 (UTC)

  1. I go for Rem, 'cause he actually makes something that's usefull for Link (even though he does it while sleeping and the Minish help him).. that's worth a spot in the lights, right?
  2. PEGASUS BOOTS FTW - and Rem gives them to Link :D
  3. Not sure who the walrus is, but based on the picture... well, it's a lazy looking walrus. Sure, Rem's a lazy looking person, but he has minish making shoes for him. That makes up for his laziness in my books.

Votes for Walrus

  1. He is a walrus, walruses are epic win ftw. Phantom Zelda ?!
  2. Talking walrus, goo goo g'joob. Also played a crucial part in me getting Marin, and the potential of a "big chance," goo goo g'joob. --AuronKaizer! 23:15, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
  3. I am the Walrus. -Minish Link 23:44, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

  2. I feel bad for the other guy, this isn't even a fair fight.
  3. Walruses are awesome. Period.
  4. Walruses are even cuter than a moose, and mooses are awesome. Plus, I have a lot in common with that huge lazy walrus. Yawn.
  5. It's a walrus
  6. its walrus no doubt
  7. Walruses are beast. Beastier than a shoe maker.

Close fight; who would imagine two narcoleptics would be so close? --Ricorum (talk) 18:13, November 18, 2010 (UTC)

To be honest, I'm a bit surprised the walrus is getting so many votes. I mean, he doesn't actually do anything except get in your way. And anyway, most of the votes for him don't have to do with the character; just the fact that he's a walrus. Darbus (talk) 12:43, November 20, 2010 (UTC)

Week 123: Link's Uncle vs. Rusl

Link's Uncle
"'Link's Uncle'"
Link's Uncle

15.5 > 15
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLADIES AND GENTLEMENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!! Zeldapedia, in one of its seemingly last outings as a member of Wikia WAIT, WASN'T THAT LAST WEEK!?, proudly brings to you the TEMPLE. OF. COOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRAAAAAAAGE!!! This week, we have a fight between two men, WHO BOTH HAVE MUSTACHES who give Link something and get harmed in a way.

In the pale green/teal/whatever-you-want-to-call-it corner, we have a man with a bushier mustache than the next one. He entrusts a sword and shield to use for defense to his nephew after being mortally wounded. THIS. IS. LIIIIIIINNNNNNNK'S UUUUUUUUNNNNNNNCLE!!!

And in the rusted sword colored corner, we have a man who enjoys flying by Golden Cucco. Gets injured by a large warrior pig thing. And has a son! THIS. IS. RUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSL!!!

So while we wait for this template to update itself, let's watch as these two mustached men battle it to the death... or at least till one gets injured... again. LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLET'S GET RRRRRRRRRRRRREAAAAAAAADY TO RUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMBLE!!!!

Votes for Link's Uncle

  1. I like both of them and I think Rusl is going to win, so I might as well go here and give Link's Uncle a boost. --EveryDayJoe45 (talk) 23:28, November 7, 2010 (UTC)
  2. He has moar mustache power. Rusl's so ashamed of his failure of a mustache that he tries to hide it with a helmet he no doubt made from a bucket. Also, something about Link's Uncle's death had an impact on me. Dying in a dark hallway is probably not the way I wanna go >.> --AuronKaizer! 23:32, November 7, 2010 (UTC)
  3. The power to cheat death is one only one has achieved...I think we've uncovered the true identity of Darth Plagueis. Jedimasterlink (talk) 23:35, November 7, 2010 (UTC)
  4. I'd look awesome in his mustache despite the fact that I am 13. Bb2BogusBongos2
  5. I just never liked Rusl at all. I mean, he was even more boring and sterile than the guy over here that gets like three minutes of screen time. Xykeb Yvolix Zraliv 01:09, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
  6. Rusl always annoyed me for no readily apparent reason. -Isdrakthül 01:55, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
  7. Meep Meep Meep (talk) 02:45, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
  8. You go, Uncle! --Ricorum (talk) 02:53, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
  9. Though I like Rusl and he gets much more screen time, I found myself voting for Link's Uncle. Both were trying to save their homeland, but Link's Uncle actually dies in the process. He also gives Link his sword/shield/spin attack, whereas whenever Rusl helps, it's sort of unnecessary. He lets you use his Golden Cucoo, which is only necessary because Midna is inexplicably not helping you jump across the chasm anymore. It's really cool how the resistance comes to your aid in the end, but I totally could have taken all those guys myself and would have felt awesome doing it. Also Link's Uncle's resurrection is part of the most impressive use of the Triforce ever. As many ghosts as there are, people do not come back to life often in Zelda.--Fierce Deku (talk) 03:45, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
  10. The Zelda series has few death scenes but when they do them I reckon they pull it off quite well. That and he comes across as a generally cool character during his forty six seconds of screen time dedicated to him. Hooray for the first Zelda character to ever die and the creator of the Spin Attack! Oni Dark Link 21:40, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
  11. This guy's classic. He made for a memorable sequence during his short time in the series. Portal-Kombat
  12. I just like Link's Uncle better (sorry Rusl!). Rusl's cool and all, but Link's Uncle is Link's only family. Corfid Bizna (talk)
  13. While Rusl is definitely a more prominent character, I've got to go with Link's Uncle on this one. I mean, Rusl is a mildly trained swordsman from a sleepy goat herding town outside on the edge of Hyrule. But Link's Uncle, like the relevant incarnation of Link, is one of the last descendants of the legendary knights of Hyrule of old, who protected the Seven Sages. I'm sorry, but in this fight, Rusl must cry "Uncle." (talk)
  14. Believe it or not, Link's Uncle is the uncle of Link. TheMidna 03:53, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

  1. Well, I like both of them, but Link's Uncle's death gave you an actual purpose other than saving Zelda. I've never played LttP, but I've read the manga and it's probably my favorite.
  2. Duh look at that mustache! Besides, somehow I do not really like Rusl, probably because he is Twilight Princess and those often win because people know them better..
  3. I was more afraid for him in his "injury" than when Rusl was injured. Also, Rusl was a jerk. Spending time at a bar while his wife was dealing with a baby alone and his son was sick in a bed.

Votes for Rusl

  1. First vote. Besides I like Rusl.--Phantom Zelda ?!
  2. Viva la Resistance! ~RavensMill
  3. I can't believe he isn't pwning.--Hylian potato (talk) 01:01, November 8, 2010 (UTC)hylian potato

  1. RUSL FTW! and also first anonymous comment ;)
  2. I don't know about you guys, but I simply prefer Rusl. Plus Link's Uncle's picture kind of scares me just a little. ^_^
  3. I like Rusl a heck of a lot more than Link's "Uncle"(I'm not really sure if he really IS Link's uncle =|) Rusl actually helps you out in TP, the other guy just propels the storyline. besides, Rusl and the other resistance Guys (and Girl) help Link in the final dungeon (I refuse to use the word "save". Link DID NOT need rescuing or anything like that >:|)
  4. Rusl doesn't die. end of story
  5. He's cool!
  6. i vote for rusl mainly bcause he had a better part in the games unlike links uncle who after the first 5 min DIES. GO RUSL
  7. Rusl is AWESOME!!!! I don't even know Link's uncle.
  8. Parkinkindavid-- All he has do do is run behind him and trip uncle XP
