Blaaz

Template:Boss Blaaz is the boss of the first dungeon in Phantom Hourglass, Temple of Fire. He bears some physical similarities to a Wizzrobe in appearance, but leaves his robe's hood unadorned, revealing a head covered in flames.

Strategy

When the battle starts, Blaaz splits into three smaller versions of himself, all of which are impervious to sword slashes. These smaller entities will float around Link, not separating too far from each other as they attempt to surround the hero on all sides. Before too long, all three will charge up a fireball attack and unleash their fury upon Link. Since the charge time takes several seconds, and because the projectiles travel in perfectly straight lines, these attacks are fairly easy to dodge. Even so, their individual attacks can be interrupted mid-charge with an aimed Boomerang attack. Although the three monsters appear identical on the DS's bottom screen, icons representing them on the map above are different: One "Mini-Blaaz" icon is adorned with a single horn, another with two horns, and the final with three horns. By drawing a path for the Boomerang and striking the enemies in ascending order, the monsters will combine into their true form. In the case they aren't attacked in the correct order, they will begin to combine, but halt abruptly halfway through and cancel the metamorphosis.

Once Blaaz returns to normal, he again becomes vulnerable to sword slashes. Lucky for Link, as this is the only way to defeat him. However, while in full form, the fire wizard gains an ability to teleport randomly around the area (much like a Wizzrobe). The fireball attacks he used while split are instead replaced with falling rocks of fire, however he will not have a chance to unleash this attack if Link bombards him with repeated strikes of his blade. In any case, Blaaz will split up into his separate forms before too long. Repeat this process a few more times, and the boss will find himself defeated. After conquering the temple and defeating its boss, Link will earn a Heart Container, gather his first Sand of Hours, and earn the aid of Leaf, the Spirit of Power.

Trivia

In Spirit Tracks there is a boss called Fraaz. His name is similar to Blaaz, as is his title (Master of Icy Fire). They are even both fought with the boomerang. However, Fraaz more resembles a humanoid Keese, and the battles are completely different.
Blaaz most likely refers to "blaze" and Fraaz most likely refers to "freeze".
