The Wooden Shield is a recurring Shield in Series. These Shields are usually unable to protect against fire and magical attacks, and may even be burnt by them. The Wooden Shield is usually superseded by a stronger, metallic Shield.

Location and Uses
The Legend of Zelda
In TLoZ, the Wooden Shield is Link's starting Shield. It is capable of blocking basic attacks, such as rocks fired from Octoroks or Arrows shot by Moblins. Link can upgrade the Shield by buying a Magical Shield from various shops around Hyrule; however, if a Like Like attacks Link, he will lose the Magical Shield and revert back to the Wooden Shield. The Wooden Shield, however, cannot be swallowed by Like Likes.

Oracle Series
In the OoX, the Wooden Shield is the L-1 Shield . It can be upgraded to the L-2 Iron Shield and later the L-3 Mirror Shield through a Linked Game.

Twilight Princess
In TP, the Wooden Shield can be bought at Malo Mart in Kakariko Village. It serves as a replacement to the Ordon Shield, the first wooden Shield Link obtains in the game, if it gets burnt. The Wooden Shield can also be burnt from fire attacks, but it is always available at Malo Mart, different from the Ordon Shield which is one of a kind.

Phantom Hourglass
In PH, the Wooden Shield is the only Shield available. In order to improve his defense, Link must use Neri's powers to improve the Shield's capabilities, such as blocking more projectiles and stunning enemies that run into the Shield. The Shield also appears in ST, known as the Shield of Antiquity, where it cannot be eaten by Like Likes.

Skyward Sword
In SS, the Wooden Shield can be obtained from Owlan by talking to him after obtaining the Goddess Sword. It can also be bought from the Gear Shop at the Bazaar for 50 Rupees. It is the most basic Shield in the game. It is weak to fire and will burn up if Link falls into lava. However, it is immune to electric attacks, making it useful in the Lanayru Desert. The Shield's special property is that it will not only block enemy Arrows, but also enable Link to collect any of them that are lodged into it; however, while a well-timed Shield Bash will protect it from most fire-based attacks, a flaming Arrow will make it start to burn. By trading Gondo some Rupees and Treasure, Link can upgrade the Wooden Shield at the Scrap Shop. Despite their increased durability, they still retain their weakness to fire.
