Hyrule Compendium Entry
Woodcutter's Axes are great tools for cutting down Trees[1] as they have a hidden property which multiplies their damage sevenfold when used against one, meaning the 40 hit point trees can be felled in two swings. Their weight makes them slow and inefficient weapons.[1] The Old Man owns one and suggests that Link takes it to defend himself.[3] They're very common on the Great Plateau, as well as in tree groves.
Since they're made of metal, Woodcutter's Axes will attract Lightning when equipped during thunderstorms. They can also be picked up using the Magnesis Rune on the Sheikah Slate.
