Twilit Aquatic: Morpheel is the third boss found in Twilight Princess, and is located in the Lakebed Temple.

Appearance
At first, it is an anemone- or Charybdis-like creature with a single eye that constantly moves through the tentacles and must be extracted via Clawshot.

Learning Location and Uses
The manner of which Morpheel is fought in its first form is identical to that of Morpha from Ocarina of Time. Morpheel's tentacles resemble Morpha's ability to extend a tentacle-like water funnel from its watery body. Morpheel can also move its single eye through its many tentacles, in the same way Morpha can move its nucleus throughout the funnel of water, and both have to be removed with their represented game's hook device. Morpheel's American name is a combination of "morph" and "eel", and shares the same prefix, "morph", with Morpha. Its Japanese name is simply a reference to the fact that it has eight feelers.

It is taught to Link as an adult by Sheik in Death Mountain Crater after the young hero receives the Goron Tunic from Darunia's son and enters the crater. By using the Ocarina of Time, this melody allows Link to warp to the Death Mountain Crater, right before the entrance to the Fire Temple. Having eight playable notes, it's one of the longest melodies in the game, along with Scarecrow's Song.

Bolero is a name given to certain slow-tempo Latin music and its associated dance and song. There are Spanish and Cuban forms, which are both significant and both of which have separate origins.
Morpheel's first form is simple to defeat. Link equips the Iron Boots, avoids the Bombfish it releases, then grabs its eye with the Clawshot. He then attacks it immediately, and repeats the operation. After two times, the creature's tentacles retract, and its eye gets swallowed, ending up on his back. Link proceeds to swim above it in order to use the Clawshot to latch onto the eye (the Critical Point). He slashes away again, only to be thrown off. He continues to do this a few more times for the monster to go down. Morpheel finally crashes into the wall, draining all the water in the room.

Upon defeating Morpheel, Link receives the third and final Fused Shadow and another Heart Container.

The Bolero of Fire is a short, 6-bar piece in triple time. Harmonically, the piece is rooted in d minor (as is easily seen in the ocarina part) and follows a very basic harmonic progression (i - ii° - i - ii° - V7 - I). The piece consists of 2-bar phrase lengths in the standard bolero style. The accompanying parts to Link's ocarina part in the Bolero of Fire include the famous snare drum excerpt from Maurice Ravel's "Bolero."

*The strategy for defeating Morpheel incorporates the strategies for defeating both Morpha and Molgera.

The "Bolero of Fire" is a warping song in Ocarina of Time.

Learning Location and Uses

It is taught to Link as an adult by Sheik in Death Mountain Crater after the young hero receives the Goron Tunic from Darunia's son and enters the crater. By using the Ocarina of Time, this melody allows Link to warp to the Death Mountain Crater, right before the entrance to the Fire Temple. Having eight playable notes, it's one of the longest melodies in the game, along with Scarecrow's Song.

Etymology

Bolero is a name given to certain slow-tempo Latin music and its associated dance and song. There are Spanish and Cuban forms, which are both significant and both of which have separate origins.

Music Theory of the Bolero of Fire

The Bolero of Fire is a short, 6-bar piece in triple time. Harmonically, the piece is rooted in d minor (as is easily seen in the ocarina part) and follows a very basic harmonic progression (i - ii° - i - ii° - V7 - I). The piece consists of 2-bar phrase lengths in the standard bolero style. The accompanying parts to Link's ocarina part in the Bolero of Fire include the famous snare drum excerpt from Maurice Ravel's "Bolero."[1]
