User:Hylian King

Welcome to my talk page. To start a new thread, click the "add topic" button in the upper-right corner.

Note that I have not played A Link Between Worlds. Please contact another staff for ALBW-related matters, as I generally won't be able to answer them.

Changing my name

Sorry to be a pain Caleb, but is it possible my name could be changed to "Conzuh"? That would be awesome. See, I like my usernames to be a spin on my real name but too many other Connors are calling themselves "Conzor". I want to be original! User:SuperSonicConzor/sig 15:37, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Done deal. And no worries, it's really no trouble. — Hylian King [*] 07:48, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! There is one problem however, and that is whenever I attempt to open my user page, a database error appears instead. Is that normal? User:Conzuh/sig 09:35, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Fixed. Here's the problem. The edit count extension was still looking for your edits under your old name, hence the error. — Hylian King [*] 10:01, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks again! User:Conzuh/sig 10:38, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Sockpuppet

So, remember that guy we banned awhile ago, Ghirahim87 and later TheLink7? So yea he's back under the name Rizzl. He even tried to clarify that he isnt Ghiralink. Same voice and he has made no prior edits. Check it out: Talk:Rosso. Champion of Nayru (talk) 08:28, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The staff will respond accordingly. — Hylian King [*] 07:48, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

So, that page moving business...

Since you asked me to! Is it possible that you can move the Hover page to Water Tektite, if this move is agreeable? I think it should be kept separate from the Tektite page, as their only connection is by their English name and they're probably not really related, plus it would avoid confusion with Blue Tektites, which can walk on water. I'm unable to move the page myself. Thank you!

On a side note, it's been forever since I availed myself of Skype. I should say that I am still on there! But last time I logged in, I wasn't able to access any of the chats, since they keep moving every month it seems... User:Fizzle/sig 19:14, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Done. Both the Tektite and Water Tektite pages will need to be updated. (For the record, I don't think I agree with keeping them separate... But that's a can of worms that's best opened on Talk:Water Tektite.)
The chats haven't changed, I see your name in all of them. What do you mean by "unable to access" exactly? — Hylian King [*] 07:51, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! And yeah, I'd rather get the pages done and then people can decide if it's best to merge or not.
I'm not sure, last time I logged in, nothing updated and nobody was online whatsoever, it was strange. Maybe a glitch on my end, however. User:Fizzle/sig 14:23, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Stalbind > Stalblind

Can you handle this move please? We've got a new editor who doesn't seem to understand how to move pages correctly, and he's misinterpreting what I did to help him.KrytenKoro (talk) 03:37, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Last username request

Hello, Hylian King. I plan on becoming somewhat more active, and I wanted to change my username one last time, if you don't mind (Username: "Vapid"). Thanks in advance, and I promise that this is my last request. User:Vapid/signature 04:02, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Pipelink confusion

I'm a bit confused on a matter; should possessive nouns that are pipelinked have the s included in the link or not? Example: should it be like this (Link's sword.), or this (Link's sword.)? User:Vapid/signature 01:43, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Zelda Wiki has no official policy on the matter, but generally possessive nouns are not pipe-linked.
Personally, I think they complicate things unnecessarily. I usually remove them whenever I see them. — Hylian King [*] 01:55, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Former Account

Years ago, I created and briefly used an account by the name of GerudoValley. Due to this wiki's ruling on multiple accounts, I wished to make note of this. Is a deletion/banning of that account appropriate? I have no intention of using it. Champion of Nayru (talk) 19:21, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

I'll go ahead and ban it, then. Thanks for letting me know! (We generally only bother banning duplicate accounts if they've been used to edit.) — Hylian King [*] 00:46, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

My Former Forgotten Account

It turns out that in 2008, I had an account that I had forgot even existed, may you get rid of it please, I have no use for it, if it's alright with you! http://www.zeldawiki.org/Special:Contributions/Vaati_the_Wind_Sorcerer#. --Vaati The Wind Demon (talk) 13:34, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Done. — Hylian King [*] 00:02, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
Here's the last one, found it from the files on the computer disk of my oldest computer before it was destroyed by a terrible trojan, so I never used it since that day and forgot the email and password on it, so may you get rid of that one too, thanks a ton!! http://zeldawiki.org/Special:Contributions/Windmagevaati. --Vaati The Wind Demon (talk) 01:01, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Let's just start over.

It has become clear to me that I'm gonna get bashed nonstop for that family tree I posted, so I replaced it with a little photoshopping collab that my bro and I did together. It is on my user page where everyone can see it. What do you think of it? (If you are interested, there is a story behind it.) --Krystal (talk) 05:13, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

I Don't Get the Timeline

Hylian King, you seem to be pretty Zelda-wise. Would you please tell me what causes the Child-Adult Timeline split? Also, what's the point of Link dying, and then the Downfall Timeline?! It's just based on alternate dimensions, like the Downfall is Lorule or something! I think my biggest confusion for the Timeline is I first saw it after I beat Wind Waker. See, when 'The Hero of Time left Hyrule', I thought that represented his time away at places like Holodrum, Labrynna, Koholint, or even his three-day stay at Termina. It makes no sense to me.

Am I crazy, or wasn't it supposed to be the Hero of Time in Holodrum, Labrynna and Koholint? Never played those games, but I've heard the story lines. Besides, in the Timeline, don't OoA and OoS come thousands of years after OoT?? Sometimes I think the Timeline itself goes against the games' story lines. Template:Nosig

I recommend reading up on our page for the timeline. It's quite a read, but it should answer all of your questions. - TonyT S C 01:29, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
Alright, thanks Pakkun! That did clear it out a little bit for me.
I glanced at your profile, and saw that Zelda game completion list. The one that was organized into a chart. How can I get one of those? :3 User:ReDead64 03:29, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
You can just copy and paste the coding from the page and edit it to fit yourself. - TonyT S C 05:12, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

So, uh...

I guess I lost my staff position? Because I didn't attend the "mandatory meeting". Hmm. Little bitter about that, seems kind of unfair, I know I'm not regularly active and go onto hiatuses but given how much I've actually contributed it seems a little harsh. I don't really care I guess, because I couldn't focus on constant wiki updates as I've got other things going on in my life and all, I just find it a little sad.

I don't even know what Google Hangouts is...

Aside from all that the wiki seems the same? I'm not sure what caused the whole deal. I'm always out of the loop though because I don't regularly use Skype and stuff. If you could clue me in that would be appreciated.

Anyway, I guess I'll just keep contributing like I always do though. Off and on, as ever. As long as you're still on staff I know the wiki is in good hands. User:Fizzle/sig 16:20, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

Hey, Fizzle. Not to reply in place of HK, but Justin's offered to explain why people have been demoted in greater detail, provided you shoot him an e-mail. - TonyT S C 20:36, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
Leadership at the wiki has dropped off as of late, so upper management has been trying to build a more cohesive and driven staff. (Until Dany freed us from it, the patrol backlog extended back several months and 10,000+ edits.) Like Pakkun said, Justin is the person to talk to about it if you need further details.
Please don't think that your contributions aren't appreciated. They really are. It's just that staff positions cannot simply be rewards for good contributions. The wiki needs its staff to do more than that – it requires quality control and leadership, too. If you were to show a greater interest in patrolling and communicating a bit more, I'm sure you could get the position back. (On that note, we've moved from Skype to a web application called Slack, which might be more convenient for you?)
Hope this clears things up a bit. I'm glad to hear this hasn't turned you off from editing because that would be a big loss. — Hylian King [*] 03:18, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
Indeed. It was nothing personal, Fizzle, but I've taken charge of organizing and optimizing the wiki, and that includes its staff. I need my team to communicate with one another if we are to be efficient, and you didn't attend or at least attempt to respond to the notification of the mandatory meeting. Perhaps there's a reason for this? I had Jason send the note to your email address, but I don't know if you received it or not. I would like you on staff, but only if you're willing to get involved with our Slack and stay in touch with the rest of us. Shoot me an email if you'd like some more details.User:Justin/sig 12:10, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

503 Errors

Am I the only one getting 503 "Service Not Available" errors? They seem to be happening often and I was curious as to why. William (Talk) 07:22, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

They appear from time to time, usually when the server is overloaded by an edit to a high-usage template. You might have even caused it yourself with all those edits, haha. Or it might just be a bug. Justin is our server guy, he might be able to tell you. If you notice any future server problems, feel free to let him know. If anyone can fix it, it's him. They tend to go away on their own after a short while, though.
Sorry for the inconvenience. — Hylian King [*] 07:40, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

I finished categorizing the Notice Templates (You listed) by Game

So now that that is done, what shall I do next? William (Talk) 20:19, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

...That was fast.
I have a new template project in the works, but I'm not finished making the actual template. Once it's done I could really use your help to implement it. In the meantime, there's miscellaneous maintenance tasks that could always use a helping hand, such as:
Also, now that Category:Articles needing attention is nice and tidy thanks to your help, feel free to try your hand at attending to some of those. Many unresolved split and merge discussions have indeed stagnated, but that doesn't mean they can't be sparked up again.
Cheers! — Hylian King [*] 03:52, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
Great. I'll probably start working on that tomorrow night. I'd do it tonight, but I have to get up early in the morning. SO I suppose I'll see you then. William (Talk) 05:14, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
I don't suppose there is a way of going through those redirects faster, is there? Like a bot or some kind of application? We have more than 7000 of them, and there is no way I could possibly go through them all without some kind of help. Same goes for the Link Templates, since as far as I know, there is no way to view a list of pages that don't use a specific template, let alone a group of them. I don't suppose this program called "Auto Wiki Browser" could be the answer? I've heard about it but never really looked into it. William (Talk) 02:13, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
AutoWikiBrowser would be very useful for replacing link templates. I use it myself and I highly recommend it. But William, no one's asking you to complete all these things on your own. I simply meant to outline things you could help with, that's all. Don't feel forced to do them at all if you don't want to.
In any case, about that new project I mentioned... I should finish the template tomorrow if not later today. I'll keep you posted. :) — Hylian King [*] 04:24, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Okay then, I'll go figure out AWB and use it to replace Link templates as well as replacing the templates. I agree with you on switching out that Exp template for the new one, it makes things much easier for the touch screened of us. William (Talk) 06:02, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
So I've got the AWB working if you haven't noticed, since I've been blowing up the Recent Changes. It may be best to set me as a bot temporarily, so I don't completely clog everything up. Or maybe set up a separate account from this one and set that as a bot. Whichever you see best. William (Talk) 07:18, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Botting you temporarily should be alright. I'll go ahead and do that.
FYI there is a bot account for AWB stuff but it has admin rights, so I can't give you the password even though I trust you with it. I'd have to run it by the other staff first. — Hylian King [*] 10:13, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Good then, I'll probably set it up now (as of posting this reply) so It can do some work while I'm busy. I have no intention to do anything with Admin rights that would harm the wiki and/or the community. Of course, whether or not the rest of the administration agrees is another story. Either way, I'll let you know when I've finished my work on the links so you ca remove me from bot. William (Talk) 14:06, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
I see you're trying to limit who can use AWB. I know Wikipedia has a way of limiting who can use it, so it might be worth your while to find out how they do it. William (Talk) 17:38, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, but I have already. The thing is, we don't want to restrict AWB entirely, just the Bot (auto save) function. It seems that's not possible yet. I'll be submitting a feature request later today. — Hylian King [*] 01:53, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

Dungeon elements

On that topic, a while back someone added elements for the LA and other GB dungeons; I know I asked at that time where they got the reasoning for those, but can the staff take a look at them too?KrytenKoro (talk) 17:11, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Almost none of the elements applied to those dungeons so I've went ahead and removed them. We're considering scrapping the Element feature entirely, for all the headaches it causes. — Hylian King [*] 19:27, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
