The "Nocturne of Shadow" is a warping song in OoT.

Learning Location and Uses
Tears of Light are recurring items in Series. They are light-infused magical teardrops that are scattered around various places. Upon their complete collection, they automatically perform their function whenever they are near something that requires their power.

The Nocturne of Shadow is one of the Warping songs Link learns as an adult. It is taught to him by Sheik in Kakariko Village after completing the Water Temple. Sheik teaches him the song so that he can find the source of evil that invaded the village. The melody allows Link to warp to the upper part of the Kakariko Village Graveyard and is the only way to access the Shadow Temple. The "Nocturne of Shadow" is the only song actually required by adult Link to reach a temple.

The "Nocturne of Shadow" is 7 bars long in 4/4 time and, like the name suggests, hints at emotions relating to night and death. There is no true harmonic progression in the first 4 bars. The melody does not suggest any strong tonic center, and the harmony consists only of fourths moving in chromatic parallel motion. The last three bars do contain functional harmony, with an unusual progression of (bVI/VII - bVII/VII - bVI - bVII - I). The ending harmony is unusual for a nocturne as it ends on a major I cadence. Generally, a nocturne will end on a minor i, or a half cadence.

The "Nocturne of Shadow" is actually a prelude, as it begins on low, sad notes and builds up to a triumphant note.
Tears of Light can be found in the Faron Province, the Eldin Province, and in the Lanayru Province. Each province has 16 Tears of Light to be collected, while only 12 must be collected in TPHD. However, the Tears of Light can only be found in one province at a time. The Spirit that requires them only marks the Tears on the map that reside within its province.

In ST, each section of the Tower of Spirits contains three Tears of Light that must be collected to power up Link's Sword. Once all three Tears have been obtained, Link can strike a Phantom in the back, which stuns it. Princess Zelda's spirit can then possess the Phantom while it is in this state. After Link obtains the Lokomo Sword, he no longer needs to use the Tears of Light. The Lokomo Sword itself is infused with divine energy, and can allow Zelda to possess Phantoms in the same way Link's previous Sword did.

In the Dark Realm, Tears of Light appear on the Spirit Tracks. If Link passes through one on the Spirit Train, it gains temporary invincibility, as well as a significant speed boost whenever Link blows the whistle. With this upgrade, it is possible to destroy Armored Trains. The Tears of Light here will eventually reappear after being collected.

Template:Song The "Nocturne of Shadow" is a warping song in Ocarina of Time.

Learning Location and Uses

The Nocturne of Shadow is one of the Warping songs Link learns as an adult. It is taught to him by Sheik in Kakariko Village after completing the Water Temple. Sheik teaches him the song so that he can find the source of evil that invaded the village. The melody allows Link to warp to the upper part of the Kakariko Village Graveyard and is the only way to access the Shadow Temple. The "Nocturne of Shadow" is the only song actually required by adult Link to reach a temple.

Music Theory

The "Nocturne of Shadow" is 7 bars long in 4/4 time and, like the name suggests, hints at emotions relating to night and death. There is no true harmonic progression in the first 4 bars. The melody does not suggest any strong tonic center, and the harmony consists only of fourths moving in chromatic parallel motion. The last three bars do contain functional harmony, with an unusual progression of (bVI/VII - bVII/VII - bVI - bVII - I). The ending harmony is unusual for a nocturne as it ends on a major I cadence. Generally, a nocturne will end on a minor i, or a half cadence.[1]

The "Nocturne of Shadow" is actually a prelude, as it begins on low, sad notes and builds up to a triumphant note.

Etymology

A nocturne, derived from the French word "nocturnal," is usually a musical composition that is inspired by, or evocative of, the night, which fits with the dark theme of the "Nocturne of Shadow."
