The Unicorn's Cave is the fifth dungeon in Oracle of Seasons.[1] It is located north of Eyeglass Lake. In the depths of this dungeon lies the fifth Essence of Nature, the Nurturing Warmth. To access the dungeon, Link requires the Power of Autumn.

Entrance to the Cave[]

The entrance to the Unicorn's Cave is aboveground, surrounded by stalagmites. Located north of Eyeglass Lake, the entrance to the dungeon is blocked off by Rock Mushrooms, which ripen only in autumn. Therefore, it is required that Link travel to Subrosia and the Temple of Seasons to obtain the power of the Spirit of Autumn, the final season obtained for the Rod of Seasons.

Themes and Navigation[]

As its name might suggest, the Unicorn's Cave is a rather fantastical dungeon with vivid purple-tiled floors and pink walls. The dungeon consists of one floor which, from above, resembles a unicorn's head facing eastwards (hence the name of the dungeon). There are also three side-scrolling rooms beneath the actual dungeon. The Boss Key is located within one of these rooms. The dungeon also has three sets of carts, which all meet in one room of the dungeon and have no other purpose but to transport Link to the adjacent rooms.

The mini-boss of the dungeon is Syger, a sabre-toothed cat with a red orb at the tip of his tail (his only weakness). The main item of the dungeon are the Magnetic Gloves, which can be used to push and pull heavy metal orbs within the dungeon in order to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. Also, fixed "S" Stones within the dungeon can be used to cross gaps by repelling or drawing Link toward the object.

The boss of the Unicorn's Cave is Digdogger, guardian of the Nurturing Warmth that Link seeks. Defeating Digdogger allows Link to claim the Essence of Nature, as well as a Heart Container.

Minor Traps and Enemies[]

Trivia[]

  • As the Magnetic Gloves are obtained in the Unicorn's Cave, the Magunesu enemy appears for the first time in this very dungeon.
  • Through sequence breaking, it is possible to obtain the Power of Autumn before the Power of Spring. Therefore, it is possible to complete this dungeon before the Dancing Dragon Dungeon, since its main item, the Slingshot, is not needed to complete this dungeon.
  • The stalagmites by the dungeon's entrance resemble stereotypical unicorn horns, referencing the dungeon's name. Furthermore, the layout of the Unicorn's Cave resembles a unicorn's head facing right.
