"A sturdy shield loved by many an adventurer. It is made of animal hide and sturdy wood and is best suited to defending against wesk monsters or animals."
Hyrule Compendium

The Traveler's Shield is an item from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Link can equip and use it as a shield to protect him from attacks and to Shield Surf. The Traveler's Shield is commonly depicted in promotional artwork and even appears in promotional demos of Breath of the Wild. It can be seen as the companion to the Traveler's Sword. It is a wooden shield made with sturdy wood and animal hide with a twin serpent design. Like all wooden shields, enemy Arrows become stuck in the Traveler's Shield when Link guards which he can collect by sheathing his shield though this trick reduces the durability of the Traveler's Shield. It has a base defense of 4 though this may be increased by a Shield Guard Up bonus. It is superior to the Pot Lid, Boko Shield, Wooden Shield, Emblazoned Shield, Hunter's Shield, and Fisherman's Shield though is inferior to the Spiked Boko Shield, Kite Shield, Shield of the Mind's Eye, Soldier's Shield, Dragonbone Boko Shield, and Forest Dweller's Shield. Like all wooden shields it burns if exposed to fire or volcanic temperatures. Interestingly, Rusty Shields can be refreshed into Traveler's Shields by feeding them to Rock Octoroks despite Rusty Shields being metallic. Stalkoblin occasionally wield them along with a Traveler's Sword. One spawns with a Traveler's Sword and Traveler's Bow in a campsite on the Cliffs of Quince northwest of Hateno Tower in West Necluda however mounted Bokoblin patrol nearby. According to the Hyrule Compendium, its common locations are Hyrule Field and West Necluda regions.

Like the Traveler's Sword, the Traveler's Shield is occasionally wielded by travelers Link encounters though travelers tend to wield Traveler's Shields far less than Traveler's Swords.

Selmie has one on display in her cabin which Link can take its picture with the Camera Rune to add it to the Hyrule Compendium. If Link attacks the shield with a burning Arrow or Fire Arrow, Selmie will tell him to knock it off.
