Boulders, also known as Rocks, are recurring traps in Series.

The Deku Shrine is a location in MM.

The Shrine is located on the west side of the Deku Palace. The entrance, however, is initially blocked by a Big Octo; therefore, it is not until Odolwa is defeated in the Woodfall Temple and the Southern Swamp's waters return to their normal state that Link can enter it. The Deku Butler appears here after Link brings the Deku Princess back to the Palace and, as thanks, tells the young hero that a reward awaits him at the end of the Shrine. As the Butler guides Link, a race begins.

The inner part of the Deku Shrine is a labyrinth full of traps and dead-ends, along with a large amount of Mad Scrubs that do not attack Link. Here, Link must "race" the Deku Butler by keeping up with him until the end of the obstacle course. If Link falls too far behind, the doors connecting the Shrine's different segments will begin to close until Link is trapped within, rendering him unable to catch up. The minigame is also failed by falling into a chasm at any point along the way. Masks such as the Bunny Hood or the Deku Mask will increase Link's speed, thus making the race easier.

Boulders are rocks that fall in random patterns when Link is traveling through certain mountainous regions of Hyrule, commonly appearing on Death Mountain. They can often be hard to predict and will inflict damage on Link if he comes in contact with them.

If Link succeeds and reaches the end of the Deku Shrine, the Deku Butler will reward him with the Mask of Scents and apologize for trying too hard to outrun him. The only way to exit the Shrine is through a magic portal that appears alongside the Butler immediately after being granted the Mask.
Boulders first appeared as rocks in TLoZ. These boulders fall off of Death Mountain near the Lost Hills. In ALttP, they appear on the lower western region of Death Mountain in the Light World. They are much larger and able to cause a whole Heart of damage. It is easier to travel further up the mountain by travelling through the caves to avoid them. Boulders also appear similar to their original appearance in LA on the east of Tal Tal Mountain Range, and OoA on the Restoration Wall. In OoT, they also appear on Death Mountain, but instead of bouncing down the mountain, they roll down it once Link has become an adult. Boulders also appear in Gerudo Valley and certain dungeons. Sometimes they roll around areas such as Ganon's Castle. In MM, they behave like they do in Ocarina of Time when climbing the Stone Tower. A gray variant can be found in the Deku Shrine. In FSA, they also appear on Death Mountain. They show up in caves where they can be pushed, where they also roll around and can be dropped into pits to make them safe to cross. In TMC, boulders appear notably on Mount Crenel and behave similar to their A Link to the Past incarnation. Rolling boulders also appear on the Isle of Ruins in PH and the Fire Sanctuary in ST. In TFH, boulders sometimes roll down the path instead of Snowballs in the Level Snowball Ravine. Static varieties are found in other locations and can be pushed to solve puzzles like in Four Swords Adventures, or destroyed by Wrecker Phantoms.

  +
In MM3D, if Link reaches the end of the Deku Shrine in another cycle after getting the Mask of Scents, the Deku Butler will give him a Fishing Hole Pass.
Boulders are also used as weapons by the Stone Hinox in LADX when it slams the ground, while Hinox in Four Swords Adventures throw massive boulders at the Links.

*The Deku Shrine can be entered without clearing the Woodfall Temple if Deku Link stands on the Lily Pad closest to the entrance, removes the Deku Mask, and shoots the Big Octo with an Arrow. The Lily Pad will sink under Link's weight, so this must be done quickly. However, the Deku Butler will not be in the Shrine to race Link, so he cannot proceed past the first room.

Template:Place The Deku Shrine is a location in Majora's Mask.

Features and Overview

The Shrine is located on the west side of the Deku Palace. The entrance, however, is initially blocked by a Big Octo; therefore, it is not until Odolwa is defeated in the Woodfall Temple and the Southern Swamp's waters return to their normal state that Link can enter it. The Deku Butler appears here after Link brings the Deku Princess back to the Palace and, as thanks, tells the young hero that a reward awaits him at the end of the Shrine. As the Butler guides Link, a race begins.

Minigame Rules

The inner part of the Deku Shrine is a labyrinth full of traps and dead-ends, along with a large amount of Mad Scrubs that do not attack Link. Here, Link must "race" the Deku Butler by keeping up with him until the end of the obstacle course. If Link falls too far behind, the doors connecting the Shrine's different segments will begin to close until Link is trapped within, rendering him unable to catch up. The minigame is also failed by falling into a chasm at any point along the way. Masks such as the Bunny Hood or the Deku Mask will increase Link's speed, thus making the race easier.

If Link succeeds and reaches the end of the Deku Shrine, the Deku Butler will reward him with the Mask of Scents and apologize for trying too hard to outrun him.[1] The only way to exit the Shrine is through a magic portal that appears alongside the Butler immediately after being granted the Mask.

In Majora's Mask 3D, if Link reaches the end of the Deku Shrine in another cycle after getting the Mask of Scents, the Deku Butler will give him a Fishing Hole Pass.[2]

Trivia

 • The Deku Shrine can be entered without clearing the Woodfall Temple if Deku Link stands on the Lily Pad closest to the entrance, removes the Deku Mask, and shoots the Big Octo with an Arrow. The Lily Pad will sink under Link's weight, so this must be done quickly. However, the Deku Butler will not be in the Shrine to race Link, so he cannot proceed past the first room.
