Thunderstorms are a Weather mechanic in Breath of the Wild.[1]
Overview[]
Thunderstorms occur in Akkala, Central Hyrule, Faron, Lanayru, and Necluda. Throughout the duration of a Thunderstorm, Rain will fall from the sky and Lightning will strike at random. Thunderstorms are also possible during Snow in places such as Mount Hylia. Any metallic Weapons, Bows, or Shields that Link has equipped will begin to spark during a Thunderstorm, eventually culminating in Link being struck by Lightning. In addition to this, metallic Objects, such as the metal blocks in Cube Patterns, will also attract Lightning.
Initially, Thundra Plateau and Calora Lake will be permanently under the affects of a Thunderstorm. After solving the "Trial of Thunder" and "A Song of Storms" Shrine Quests and activating their respective Ancient Shrines, these Thunderstorms will subside.
