Throne Rooms are recurring locations in The Legend of Zelda.[1][2][3]
Features and Overview[]
The Minish Cap[]
The Throne Room is located within Hyrule Castle in The Minish Cap. King Daltus resides within it until he is turned to stone by Vaati, who takes his place. Minister Potho and Princess Zelda are also found here, the latter also having been turned to stone.
When Vaati transforms Hyrule Castle into Dark Hyrule Castle, the Throne Room becomes an arena for Link to fight a Red Darknut. After it is defeated, the throne can be pushed aside to reveal a staircase leading to a subterranean level of the Castle.
A Link Between Worlds[]
The Throne Room is a single chamber inside Lorule Castle in A Link Between Worlds. The Throne Room serves as the stage of the final battle of the game, where Link faces Yuga Ganon and Princess Hilda for the freedom of Princess Zelda and ownership of Hyrule's Triforce. After unlocking the main door at the end of Lorule Castle, Link is able to access Princess Hilda's offices, which contains a portal back to Princess Zelda's offices in Hyrule that now contain several Fairies. Link follows the same path from Princess Hilda's private office to the Throne Room, where he learns of Princess Hilda's duplicity and conspiracy with Yuga to steal Hyrule's Triforce to restore Lorule, which lost its own Triforce when Princess Hilda's ancestors destroyed it to stop the endless wars fought over it. After sharing this story with Link, Hilda steals the Triforce of Wisdom from Princess Zelda, who is contained in her painting nearby. She then summons Yuga Ganon, commanding him to take the Triforce of Courage from Link. The hero bests the beast, who captures Princess Hilda in a painting as well, and absorbs it to gain the Triforce of Wisdom. Yuga Ganon then attempts to take the Triforce of Courage again, but falls to the blade of the Master Sword, exploding in a burst of dark energy and releasing both Hilda and Zelda.
Breath of the Wild[]
Two separate Throne Rooms exist in Breath of the Wild. The first is a part of Zora's Domain, housing King Dorephan of the Zora. The second makes up the first floor of Hyrule Castle's Sanctum.[4]
In Zora's Domain, Link first enters the Throne Room at the behest of Sidon.[5] There, he meets Muzu and King Dorephan, the latter of whom recognizes him as the Hylian Champion.[6] He tells Link about the troubles that Zora's Domain is facing because of Divine Beast Vah Ruta, asking him to work with Sidon to quell its rampage.[7] As a show of his faith, King Dorephan gifts Link the Zora Armor.[8]
Angered by this, Muzu storms out of the Throne Room.[9] Sidon will follow him in the hopes that he can change his mind.[10] After Sidon leaves, King Dorephan sends Link after them both.[11]
After Link has calmed Divine Beast Vah Ruta, all of the Zora will gather in the Throne Room to congratulate him.[12] As a reward, King Dorephan allows Link to take the contents of the stone Treasure Chest nearby, which he claims was an Item cherished by Mipha.[13] In the Chest, Link will find the Lightscale Trident. On behalf of all the Zora, King Dorephan thanks Link and Sidon.[14] Sidon himself thanks Link, shaking his hand and cheering for him along with the rest of the Zora.[15]
When Link starts the "EX Champion Mipha's Song" Main Quest, which is exclusive to The Champions' Ballad DLC Pack, Mipha's Diary will appear in the Throne Room.[16] King Dorephan gives Link permission to read it, believing Mipha would forgive him if he did so.[17]
In Hyrule Castle, the Throne Room is located on the lowest level of the Sanctum. Even in its ruined condition, it is heavily decorated with banners, statues, and carpets. The floor of the Sanctum is decorated with a circular pattern with the symbol of the Triforce engraved in the center. The Marks of the Goddesses positioned in the center of each respective Triforce piece while the Royal Crest sits in the negative space created by the triangles. The metal decoration above the throne bears the symbol of the Triforce, in addition to a circular music scale depicting "Zelda's Lullaby".
Following the Great Calamity, Princess Zelda used her newly-awakened sealing power to contain Calamity Ganon within the interior of the Sanctum, where he bides his time and gathers strength to escape her grasp.[18] Inside the Throne Room, Link will find Ganon's Cocoon suspended from the ceiling. If Link enters without having defeated any of the four Blight Ganons, he will be forced to face them. They consistently appear in the order of Windblight Ganon, Waterblight Ganon, Fireblight Ganon, and then Thunderblight Ganon. If Link defeated any of them prior to entering the Throne Room, they will not appear.
Once all four have been defeated, whether in the Throne Room or their respective Divine Beasts, Link will hear the voice of Princess Zelda.[19] She apologizes for not being able to hold Calamity Ganon back any longer.[20] A Guardian laser bursts out of Ganon's Cocoon, breaking it open and releasing Calamity Ganon. Due to Ganon's weight, the fall breaks the floor of the Throne Room, causing both of them to fall into the Astral Observatory.
