The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is a top-down style game for the Nintendo Switch, released on September 26, 2024. It appears to utilize the same game engine and art style featured in the Switch remake of Link's Awakening. This is the first mainline title in The Legend of Zelda series to feature Princess Zelda as the main playable character rather than Link, and the first overall game to do so since The Wand of Gamelon and Zelda's Adventure.[1]

Story[]

While rescuing Princess Zelda from Ganon, Link falls through a mysterious rift and disappears into the Still World. Meanwhile, similar rifts begin appearing throughout Hyrule, causing others to vanish into the Still World as well, including the king and his advisors, General Wright and Minister Lefte. Upon Zelda’s return to Hyrule Castle, imposters of the king and his advisors frame her for causing the rifts and imprison her in the castle dungeons to await execution. Zelda escapes with the help of the fairy Tri, who grants her the Tri Rod and accompanies her on a journey across Hyrule to repair the rifts and rescue those trapped in the Still World.

During her adventure, Zelda confronts an imposter of Link before rescuing the real Link from Ganon after defeating him in Hyrule Castle. However, Ganon is revealed to be an imposter created by the primordial evil Null, who possesses the same power to create echoes and captures Link. After Zelda repairs the rifts affecting the shrines of the Golden GoddessesDin, Nayru, and Farore—they reveal that Null once resided in the void before reality, consuming life as it formed to remain the only being in existence. The Goddesses created the universe over this void to seal away Null, causing it to resent them. After Hyrule’s founding, Null attempted to break free by creating rifts to destroy reality and return all existence to the void. To counter this, the Goddesses sent the Tris to repair the rifts and return to them once their purpose was fulfilled.

Null then attempts to steal the Prime Energy for itself by creating an echo of Zelda, whom the Goddesses had chosen to share its power alongside Link. With help from Link and Tri, Zelda confronts and destroys Null. The Tris repair the remaining rifts and return to the Goddesses, while Zelda reunites with the king.

Major Characters[]

After Link defeats Ganon and frees Princess Zelda from her crystal prison, a mysterious rift opens in the room. Just before vanishing into it, he manages to crack Zelda's crystal with an arrow. Although she escapes the shattered crystal, she barely exits Ganon's castle before the rift engulfs it. With similar rifts appearing across Hyrule, Zelda teams up with the enigmatic fairy Tri. Armed with the Tri Rod, which can create "echoes" of objects and monsters, they set out to save her kingdom and Link.

After Link defeats Ganon and frees Princess Zelda from her crystal prison, a mysterious rift opens, and he manages to crack Zelda's crystal with an arrow before being pulled into it. Later, he is captured by Null, prompting Zelda to embark on a mission to rescue him.

Tri, a small yellow figure, first follows Zelda as she escapes the Suthorn Ruins. After Zelda is captured in Hyrule Castle, Tri reveals their full form and creates the Tri Rod for her, which allows her to summon Echoes. They explain their role in mending the rifts throughout Hyrule and help Zelda enter the Still World to rescue Minister Lefte and their friends. Initially visible only to Zelda, Tri becomes visible to others once they meet rescued individuals. Tri has floating triangles that represent the Echoes created with the Tri Rod; each echo uses one triangle. Completing dungeons and rescuing more friends increases the triangles, allowing for more echoes. Additionally, Tri can bind physical objects to Zelda’s location, enabling her to move them or travel with them.

The King of Hyrule makes his first appearance in Hyrule Castle upon Zelda's return, where he meets with General Wright and Minister Lefte to discuss the Rifts threatening the area. Suddenly, a Rift opens behind him, pulling him into the Still World. An alternate version of him, known as King of Hyrule emerges and blames Zelda for the Rifts' appearance, demanding her execution.

Minister Lefte first appears in the Throne Room of Hyrule Castle, where she discusses strategies to address the Rifts with the King of Hyrule and General Wright. After they finalize a plan, a Rift opens, engulfing all three. Dark versions of them soon emerge from the void, accusing Zelda of causing the Rifts. Later, while exploring the Stilled Suthorn Forest, Zelda encounters Minister Lefte, who ended up there due to the earlier events. After completing the Suthorn Ruins, she offers to guide Zelda to a location marked on the map by Impa. Lefte leads Zelda to meet Lueburry, Impa's brother. Throughout Zelda's journey to resolve the Rifts in the Gerudo and Zora regions, Minister Lefte remains a helpful presence.

General Wright appears in the Throne Room alongside the King of Hyrule and Minister Lefte as they discuss strategies to address the Rifts appearing across Hyrule. Shortly after they finalize a plan, a Rift opens and engulfs Wright, the King, and Minister Lefte. From the Rift, a dark version of General Wright emerges, supporting the King's claim that Zelda is responsible for the Rifts.

Impa, an elderly woman with a walking stick and a cape adorned with the Sheikah eye, meets Zelda as she sneaks past the guards after escaping her imprisonment by the Phony King. Impa checks Zelda for injuries and suggests she wear a cloak as a disguise. She also gives Zelda a Log, a book to record her progress, quests, and a Map. When three Hylian Soldiers discover Zelda's escape and confront them, Impa steps forward, instructing Zelda to stay back. She then swiftly incapacitates the soldiers with supernatural speed, using her cane to strike them down. Impa stays behind, urging Zelda to continue on her journey.

Lueburry, a member of the Sheikah tribe, is the older brother of Impa and a renowned inventor. He is credited with crafting the Sword of Might, the weapon used by Link.

At the start of the game, Ganon kidnaps Princess Zelda and imprisons her in a crystal. When Link confronts Ganon, a fierce battle ensues. Ganon attacks with his trident and fireballs, but after a Dead Man's Volley, Link manages to stun him. Seizing the opportunity, Link defeats Ganon, who then explodes into a cloud of purple fog. The remaining trident creates a void in the room, engulfing Link.
