Hello! I noticed you've been making a lot of edits to the same page over a short time. Doing this puts a large strain on our server and clogs up the recent changes. So instead of saving a lot, use the "show preview" button next to the "save page" button. It'll allow you to view your edit for any mistakes so you don't have to make a lot of fixing edits or additional ones! :) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 23:02, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

:Every color is represented by a six-digit color code. Black, for example, is 000000. Replace those zeroes with whatever color you want your signature to be. You can find out the codes for every color [http://html-color-codes.info/ here]. Replace "Arial" with whatever font you want. When you're done, save the page. Then go to [[User:Darkness/sig2]] and copy-paste '''<nowiki>{{:User:Darkness/sig}}</nowiki>''' there. Save the page. Then go to "[[Special:Preferences|My Preferences]]" and type '''<nowiki>{{subst:User:Darkness/sig2}}</nowiki>''' in the "Signature" box. Make sure the "''Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)''" box is '''checked''', then save your preferences and voila! Custom signature. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 23:21, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

::Thank you so much! {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 23:31, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

:::No problem! I noticed it was a little small so [http://zeldawiki.org/index.php?title=User%3ADarkness%2Fsig&action=historysubmit&diff=327928&oldid=327923 I added a little bit of code to your sig], since I forgot to tell you how to change the size. Hope you don't mind. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 23:36, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

::::And, as a last question, how come my signature is yellow? Ummm... sorry. I tried to follow the instructions but it ended up yellow (Like most links) {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 23:46, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

==Images==

And, sorry to bug you, but are we allowed to add images to the wiki that will be used only for our own user pages? [[User:Darkness|Darkness]] 15:57, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

:Yep, you can! :3 --[[User:Dany36|Dany36]] 20:32, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

==External Links==

I tried to reply to someone on a talk page. As soon as I tried to save, the site asked what color Link's tunic was. I went back to the page and retyped my response. This time it asked me what Link's main weapon was. Frustrated, I just typed in "sword" and the page went back to normal. What was I doing wrong? [[User:Darkness|Darkness]] 21:10, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

:That is a defense against spammers who wish to post external links. If you weren't posting an external link, then it's because we have a bug in the system. They don't appear often, though, so you shouldn't worry yourself with it. {{:User:Tony/sig}} 22:36, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

::What Pakkun said; you didn't have to retype your message. If you had simply answered the question and clicked save page again, your message would have been posted the first time.

::For the record, your past few messages on this page should've been been posted at the [[Zelda Wiki:Milk Bar|Milk Bar]], or, if you wanted to speak to one of us directly, on our own talk page. If you post your questions on your own talk page, there is a chance that no one will see it (so far Dany, Pakkun and I have because we check the [[Special:RecentChanges|Recent Changes]] on a regular basis, but that won't always be the case). {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 22:59, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

:::Thank you, and I will start asking these things on the Milk Bar and not on my user page. I tried doing this, and I diddn't know we could edit those pages... Sorry! (And, as a note, I didn't post an eternal link - so it was probably a bug.) And thank you all for answering my questions! [[User:Darkness|Darkness]] 23:24, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

::::Any time! It's what we're here for. Anyhoo, we'll try to look into fixing that problem. (In any case, the security quesion only shows up for new users. It'll go away once you become [[Zelda Wiki:Autoconfirmed users|autoconfirmed]].) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 23:30, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

:::::It's happened 3 more times since I posted the original. Anyway, I asked the same question on the Milk Bar, because you told me that I shouldn't be posting here.{{:User:Darkness/sig}} 00:42, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

::::::Is there any way I can fix the external link problem? It's happening more and more often... And when I typed this, it happened again... {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 01:40, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

== Just an FYI ==

Hey Darkness, I just wanted to let you know that I've [http://www.zeldawiki.org/User_talk:Dany36#Twilight_Princess responded] to your question on [[User:dany36|dany36]]'s talk page. Just to summarize what I said there, Twilight Princess on the Wii is the same game as Twilight Princess for the GameCube (albeit with some technical differences stemming from being released on two different consoles), so it cannot possibly be any less "canon" than its GC counterpart.

Hope this helps, take care. =) [[User:Kurtis C.|Kurtis C.]] 10:48, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

:Thanks a lot. I can't sign my posts because the symbol that you put down is sending me to a weird software page. Sorry! And thanks again. {{nosig|Darkness|08:31, 3 November 2012}}

::That's odd. Have you tried simply clicking on the four tildes in the box below the "save page" button? I don't see how they could cause complications... {{:User:Tony/sig}} 17:51, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

:::Thanks! I never noticed that box. Sorry. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 18:02, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

==Artwork==

If I want to upload fan art that I made, what is the copyright? It's not another person's work, but it's not official, either. I watched the video tutorial and it looks like there is supposed to be an option for My Own Work. Where is it? {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 22:17, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

:On the [[:Template:FileInfo|FileInfo template]], you simply add "Fan art" onto the section where it asks for copyright information. Whereas if you want to source it, you simply add a link to the website you "got it" from. So, say you posted it on deviantArt, you would get the link from the dA page it came from and put that onto the source section. If you want to further directly claim it, just say so in the summary; though, it's recommended that it's posted on an alternative source besides Zelda Wiki. {{:User:Tony/sig}} 08:25, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

::Actually, the image I want to add is a heavily edited and recolored images that I got from the wiki. I looked at the Fan Art category and plenty of them are the same thing. So the source would be the wiki? But you said that it shouldn't be... and one of the pictures is a picture I drew myself and scanned it onto my computer. What would the source be? And I don't have any other places to post my work besides on my userpage. Sorry. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 14:19, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

:::In this case it would be fine to just not put any source. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 21:37, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

::::Thanks. Is there supposed to be an option for My Work in the Licensing menu? {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 21:54, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

:::::When uploading fan art you always have to select "Another individual's work" because that's what adds Template:Fan art to the page. That covers all unofficial, non-copyrighted art whether it's yours or someone else's. Yeah, it's pretty misleading... Come to think of it, I'll go change the wording right now. And yes, the video tutorial is outdated; some of the options you're seeing there don't exist anymore. I'll see if myself or another staff member can go about recording an update when one of us has the time. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 22:29, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

::::::Thank you so much for changing the wording. I went to upload my file and saw it... it really helped. Thanks again! {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 23:02, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

==User Page==

Do you think my user page is too long? I'll erase most of it if you think that would be better... Sorry if it is. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 18:00, 7 November 2012 (UTC) (Oops... the Wiki just crashed. I had to rewrite this.)

:Your user page can be as long as you want it to be, there's no rules on that. However, we do ask that the main focus of our editors be on contributing to the wiki. The user page is just extra, really. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 22:04, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

::I'm sorry about that. I try to edit to the wiki more than my user page, but I forget sometimes. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 22:06, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

:::No worries! It's all about having good intentions, and clearly you have that :) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 22:19, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

::::I deleted nearly all of my user page. It seemed to be unnecessarily long. And I moved it all to another page. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 01:05, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

== Image sources ==

Hey again! Great to see you've taken to uploading images. =) One thing though, if you obtained the image from another website, it is really important to say where you got it from in the "Source" field of the upload form. That way everybody gets the credit they deserve. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 00:56, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

I'm so sorry. I'll do that for all of the next images I upload, and are there any sites we shouldn't take images from? (Besides Fan Art) Just asking. Thanks and sorry. (By the way, if we took an image from the manga, is that Copyrighted or Fan art?) {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 01:01, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

:Copyrighted, and it would count as a "scan" type. There's technically nothing stopping you from uploading images from any site, but we'd really rather you not upload images from Zeldapedia. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 01:09, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

::Thanks so much. And is there any way to tell whether an image is official or not? Some fan art looks like it could have come from the game. And thanks again! {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 12:50, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

==Email Address==

I have a problem-a friend registered for a Zelda Wiki account and she doesn't have an email, so I told her to put mine. However, my email is also registered for my account, and I was afraid that someone would think that both were created by the same person and delete both. What can I do to stop this? {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 23:46, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

:Rest assured, that won't happen. It's OK for several users to be signed up under the same email address. Even if it weren't, we wouldn't just block accounts without talking it through with you first.

:As I've said before, we would really appreciate it if you asked your questions at the [[Zelda Wiki:Milk Bar|Milk Bar]]. If ever anybody else comes along with the same question, that's where they'll be looking for the answer; not here. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 00:02, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

::I'm sorry. I guess I just forgot... and thank you so much! {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 00:05, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

== Refs ==

Hey! I'd just like to point out that all you need to do to add references to a page is use the [[:Template:Ref|Ref template]] by writing <nowiki>{{Ref}}</nowiki>. It's much simpler than the method that you've been using in your recent edits, like [http://zeldawiki.org/index.php?title=Elrora&diff=333148&oldid=279920 this one]. :) {{:User:Tony/sig}} 06:49, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

:Oh... thanks. I really didn't notice that template, and the instructions on using References don't mention it either. Thanks for pointing it out! {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 23:25, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

== Zelda template ==

Just so you know, [[Template:Zelda]] is mostly for coding other templates and is generally not for use on its own. For the "game" field of fileinfo, all you need to type is the acronym. For example, there's no point in typing <nowiki>{{Zelda|MM}}</nowiki> because just typing MM would have the same effect (see [http://zeldawiki.org/index.php?title=File:Mountain_View_from_Great_Bay.png&curid=52494&diff=333341&oldid=333325 here]). That said, we appreciate you helping out with the files. :) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 02:28, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

:Thanks so much. I had no idea about that.... I seem to be having trouble with templates. And our computer has a software that shuts down the computer when I type a fourth tilde. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 11:59, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

== Out of Curiosity... ==

Is this the first wiki you've ever edited? You seem to be doing a fine job for someone who only joined a couple months ago! You're certainly doing better than I did at first, anyway :P{{:User:Justin/sig}} 00:13, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

:Thank you so much! Actually, it's the first website I have ever edited. Thanks! Your comment is the first comment I've got on my talk page that is not about a mistake I made, such as not adding sources for images, editing too much on one page, using a template wrong, and using a template wrong. Thanks (again)! {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 00:19, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

::Haha, that's all normal. You should see my first talk page archive. Constantly being told "Hey, this is bad" and such. I can also pull up some edits I made that were downright STUPID. Since my return from my two year inactivity, I've already begun patrolling your edits, and after seeing pretty much great work, I looked back at your contributions to find mostly quality edits with some normal mistakes that signify an eagerness to learn and a desire to help the wiki grow. Call me nostalgic, but it reminds me of myself when I first joined...But anyways, keep up the good work and don't be discouraged by people telling you how to do stuff. There's a lot to learn in editing a wiki! :P{{:User:Justin/sig}} 00:27, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

:::Sometimes when you're patrolling you get so focused trying to keep everything in order that you forget to tell people what they did right, too. I apologize for that. Believe me, we all like what you're doing here and it's a joy to see you progress. :) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 00:35, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

::::Thank (both of) you so much. I try to improve the wiki and I know I mess up sometimes...

I had a long reply to the original question but it was all deleted because someone else edited it before I did.

:::The original response went like this...

:::Thank you again. I guess it's kind of normal to get warned about making all sorts of mistakes, because otherwise we would keep on making them.

:::PS: I looked at your first talk page archive and I wanted to ask what a Show preview <u>nutton</u> is (Wait, never mind. It was supposed to be button, right?)

:::PPS: I can'tfind any images of the merchant's shop from {{TLoZ}} as you requested onthe [[Talk:Shop|Talk page]]. I'm sorry, either I was looking in the wrong place or we just don't have any.

:::PPPS: I was thinking that the wiki really doesn't need "talkpageban", as it only applies to one user, doesn't have a page, and is all one word (and therefore looks really messy).

:::PPPPS:I guess it's normal that every user gets warned for editing their userpage too much. My [[User:Darkness|userpage]] was extremely long until I cut it off and moved it [[User:Darkness/About|here.]]{{:User:Darkness/sig}} 00:44, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, that was supposed to be "button," haha. And no worries if you can't find an image. You can always search the web for one and upload it through [[Special:Upload|this page]]. If you don't want to do that, then don't worry about it. I'll sic someone else on it. I would do it myself, but I am currently editing from my Xbox's internet explorer (technology is awesome, no?)<br/>

About the talkpageban, that was created for a very...let's say "unruly" user from a competing wiki who liked to run his mouth a little too much. You are correct in that it is no longer necessary, considering that I'm 90% sure they just don't care about us anymore. I'll bring that one up with the bigger staff than myself. And about userpages...GO NUTS. Check my userpage history to see how big it used to be. It even had a big ole' sign at the top of the page saying "NO STUPID PEOPLE BEYOND THIS POINT!" which I just recently had HK here delete because I felt it was too tacky. So it really doesn't matter how long your userpage is. Nobody will be angry, I promise. It's when you edit it a million times in a row and it starts to strain the server that it causes problems. Which I see you haven't done more than once when someone was like "Okay, chillax please."<br/>

But hey, like I said, don't sweat the small stuff, and as long as you are legitimately trying to improve the wiki, you will never have to worry about getting in trouble. Be bold! Make that edit! If people don't like it, it can be changed. We have a policy known as "Assume good faith," basically saying that if something looks bad, we'll generally assume it wasn't intentional destruction. Now, I must return to my editing. Good talk!{{:User:Justin/sig}} 01:00, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

:THANKS! Oops, I'll go edit it right away. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 21:55, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

::Great. I took what we need of the article and put something like their article in my sandbox, and I bet the articles have a one word difference. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 22:36, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

:::Fine work, young lass. I don't suppose you're familiar with CSS or javascript, are you?{{:User:Justin/sig}} 22:39, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

::::Uh... that wasn't supposed to be a good thing... No, I do not. I don't really know anything about either of those. :( Am I supposed to? {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 22:42, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

It normally wouldn't be, but we're talking about a help guide. In this case, it doesn't matter much (well, to me anyway). As far as knowing anything about the other stuff, no, you don't need to. I was just hoping someone might be able to help make the pages. *sigh*{{:User:Justin/sig}} 23:15, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

:::::I guess I could try to learn something about them, but I have no experience now. I didn't know anything about HTML until I joined this wiki. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 23:17, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Well, I wouldn't advise jumping in headfirst if you're still learning HTML. Javascript is tough to master, and even I don't know all its ins and outs (and I'm the resident code monkey!). CSS isn't so bad, though. I'd say start by learning HTML, then examine CSS. After that, if you're feeling bold, take a look at javascript. It's tough, though, because javascript is a scripting language, and not a markup language like HTML. IE: writing javascript is akin to programming.<br/>

By the way, it seems like you could benefit from our Skype chats. We have people there most of the time who can give you fairly quick answers to questions. If you're interested, take a look at <s>this page</s>.{{:User:Justin/sig}} 23:26, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

:Ummm... I use Skype, but... if I remember correctly, there's a warning on the area where you sign up for Skype that says something like "Warning: Skype chats may be occasionally inappropriate for younger users." I probably qualify as a younger user. I would love to join the Skype chats, but I really don't want to be on a chat that's immature/inappropriate, I thought about joining a while ago and... well, I'll think about it. :) {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 23:48, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

::Well, even if you don't want to join the chat, you can feel free to add any of the users who are on Skype if you ever want to ask something and would like a quick answer. I don't know how old you are, but I'd say the chats are probably fine for anyone 15 and older, depending on how strict your parents are. At most, 17 and up.{{:User:Justin/sig}} 23:52, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

::Okay. I'll do what you said about adding any of them on Skype. I will be able to join the chat in... never mind, it's too embarrassing. I would say I might be in the top 10 youngest autoconfirmed users ever to join Zelda Wiki. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 23:56, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

:::Haha, alright. Age is nothing to be embarassed about, though. I'm always happy to see young people editing on here, because I'm sure not getting any younger and I can't do this forever. You are the future of this wiki, and I only hope to set an example for the younger editors and to see them blossom into highly skilled and incredibly talented and respectable members. But enough small talk. There's work to do here!{{:User:Justin/sig}} 00:05, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

::::Oh, My Skype name is Shadow_Twili so if you ever see a message or whatever from them, it's from Darkness. {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 01:42, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

== Featured article voting ==

Hey, so Mandi brought up a good point [[Zelda Wiki:Hyrule Castle#Just a though|here]] about our Featured Article and Image voting systems. I personally would like to see a change, but that just won't happen if no one says anything or voices their opinion. I'm asking you to please voice your opinion on changing the system so we can move forwards with proposing actual changes and actually GET somewhere with this. Please and thank you!{{:User:Justin/sig}} 04:34, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
