Location | Kitano Bay |
Reward | Gold Rupee |
"The Hero's Cache" is a Side Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]
Overview[]
In Kitano Bay, Link can encounter Kass playing his bandoleon on a stone pillar.[2] If Link has met him before, Kass will comment on how fortunate they are to have crossed paths again and asks if he can to see the ocean.[3] He explains that the strange pillar they are standing on is the subject of an "Ancient Song," and he and asks Link if he wants to hear it.[4]
When Link agrees to listen, Kass sings a song that recounts the words of an ancient hero.[5] The hero left a cache at "17 of 24", and the pillar points toward its location.[6] When he is done singing, Kass speculates that the cache could be referring to a stash of money,[7] which he believes is possible since it was left by the hero from 10,000 years ago.[8] He wishes Link luck in deciphering the riddle,[9] which begins the Side Quest.
At five in the evening, which is the seventeenth hour of the day, the shadow of the pillar will point towards a Treasure Chest in the water. Using the Magnesis Rune, Link can pull the Chest up. Inside is a Gold Rupee, obtaining which will end the Side Quest.[10]

Trivia[]
- This Quest is the only one Kass gives that is not a Shrine Quest.
- The location of this Side Quest is hinted at in Kass's Journal.[11] Within, Kass details an ancient song about a strange stone pillar in Kitano Bay.[12] The song supposedly refers to a treasure meant to be recovered by a lost hero,[13] which he believes must be worth a lot.[14]
