"The Champions' Ballad",[1] previously known as the Unfinished Song,[2] is a Song in Breath of the Wild.
Overview[]
The first time Link approaches a Monument during the "EX The Champions' Ballad" Main Quest, Kass will remark that a Monument is mentioned in the Unfinished Song by his teacher, the Court Poet.[2] When Link expresses curiosity, Kass explains that his teacher was unable to complete the song before he passed away.[3] Kass has made it a goal for himself to complete the Unfinished Song, so he has decided to visit the locations that the Court Poet wrote about.[4]
The Unfinished Song is composed of several key verses that were written by the Court Poet.[3] These verses were written in honor of the Champions and the trials they faced.[5] They are dedicated to Daruk,[6] Mipha,[7] Revali,[8] and Urbosa.[9] Kass will offer to sing these verses for Link in their respective locations.[10]
While journeying and completing the Unfinished Song, Kass will write several independent songs dedicated to the Champions. These are "Champion Daruk's Song",[11] "Champion Mipha's Song",[12] "Champion Revali's Song",[13] and "Champion Urbosa's Song."[14] As he writes, Kass begins to feel closer to the departed Court Poet.[15][16][17][18] In turn, he gets closer to finishing the song.[19][20][21] At the end of his travels, Kass decides that the perfect setting to the song would be Hyrule Castle in the distant past.[22]
After Link completes the Final Trial, he will exit the Shrine of Resurrection to find Kass overlooking the Great Plateau. Kass reveals that he has would like to sing the completed song for Link.[23] He considers their current location perfect for singing the song.[24] The final song depicts the inauguration of the Champions at Hyrule Castle 100 years ago.[25] He asks Link to listen to him sing this song, which he has entitled "The Champions' Ballad".[1] Listening to the song causes Link to remember "The Champions' Ballad" Recovered Memory.
Once "The Champions' Ballad" has been played for Link, Kass recounts that the Court Poet told him to write songs that transported their listener to a different moment in time.[26] Kass now believes that he understands that lesson, as well as the true power of music.[27]
