Dr. Left is an eclectic, sedentary biologist whom is seen researching Cuccos in OOS, and the Picori in TMC. Although his character is significant to the plot in both games, he plays relatively minor roles.
Goriya are recurring enemies in the series, first appearing in TLoZ. They are a kind of demon that have mastered the Boomerang as a tool of war, making them deadly in both short- and long-range combat.

Characteristics and Weaknesses
The Legend of Zelda
As with many enemies in the Legend of Zelda, Goriya come in 'red' and 'blue' varieties, and only appear in Dungeons. Blue Goriya can survive longer than the red variety, due to having more health, and their attacks do much more damage. They seem to not directly attack Link, but instead wander around before tossing their Boomerang in a random direction. Goriya generally attack in groups of three or more. Link first finds the Boomerang by defeating a group of red Goriya in Eagle, and later finds the Magical Boomerang by defeating a group of blue Goriya in Moon.

In certain dungeons, a hungry Goriya will be blocking the passage to the next room, and when talked to, their stomachs grumble, vaguely hinting that the creature is hungry. They will refuse to budge until fed. To satisfy the monster and obtain entry, Link must offer it Food purchased from a shop.

The Adventure of Link
The side-scrolling angle of TAoL changes typical Goriya attack patterns. Instead of tossing their projectiles in random directions, they specifically target Link, and can have multiple Boomerangs in the air at one time, unlike their past incarnations. They can throw Boomerangs on either the "bottom" or "top" level, in the same way most bipedal enemies attack. Depending on the Boomerang's height, Link must choose to duck or stand to block the attacks with his shield. If a Boomerang is thrown at the bottom level, it will return to the Goriya on the top level, and vice versa.

Goriya now tend to appear in caves and fields more often than dungeons, and generally only appear alone or with a single partner instead of larger groups, perhaps due to the fact that they are now more challenging opponents.

A Link to the Past
In ALTTP, Goriya are radically different from their previous appearances. Known as in Japan as "Coppie", they first appear in the Palace of Darkness and reappear in later Dark World dungeons such as Ganon's Tower. Their typical behavior and attacks have been changed drastically. They no longer use Boomerangs, but instead copy Link's movement pattern, similar to Arm-Mimics and Mask-Mimics, moving in the opposite direction of Link. While the green Goriya can be cornered and destroyed with the Master Sword, they are especially weak to the Bow, much like the Eyegores from the same game. The red variety spit deadly fireballs whenever facing Link, and similar to red Eyegores, they can only be killed with Arrows.

In the original SNES version of the game, Goriya make a single appearance in the Light World in a cave in Death Mountain. In the Game Boy Advance version, they were replaced with Eyegores in the Light World, thus they only appear in the Dark World in that version.

Link's Awakening
Though only one appears in LA, this Goriya is not an enemy, and even offers Link a powerful item. He is found in a cave on the southern portion of Toronbo Shores. Link can only see and speak with him at the end of the trading sequence, when he has the Magnifying Lens. At this point, the Goriya offers to trade Link a Boomerang he found on the beach for one of his items. Link can trade the Boomerang back to the Goriya at any time to recover his item. The Boomerang is one of the most useful weapons in the game, and the Goriya will even beg Link to give it back to him after the trade. Not all items can be traded for the Boomerang.

In this game, they look identical to Moblins, suggesting a relation between the two types of monster. They behave like their original incarnations in The Legend of Zelda; wandering around the room and suddenly throwing Boomerangs to attack Link. Many of the enemies that appear in the Gnarled Root Dungeon evoke those that appeared in the Eagle dungeon of the original NES adventure, and these are no exception.

Dr. Left later appears in TMC. Instead of researching Cuccos, he instead seems more interested in learning about the mysterious Picori race (better known as the "Minish"). He is the owner of the overdue Library Book, "Legend of the Picori", which Link must locate within Dr. Left's home and return to the library. This knowledge is laughingly inferior to what is already known by Link, due to his regular encounters with the Minish race on his adventures.
Goriya in ALBW behave quite similarly to Goriya in Link to the Past, with the exception that they do not mimic Link's movements; instead, they tend to walk directly towards him when they see him. In this game, Goriya can only be found in the Dark Palace and Treacherous Tower.

Animated series
Goriya appear in two episodes of the animated series. In That Sinking Feeling, Ganon commands a Goriya to search for the Overworld Magnet and to use it to drag Link and Princess Zelda into the Underworld. thus forming the alliance known as the Brotherhood of Underworld Monsters. Later on, when all of Ganon's followers begin their attack on North Castle, a Goriya can be seen commanding an army of Vires to carry several Octoroks and fire bombs inside the castle, but then begins arguing with another Goriya as to what their course of action should be. Eventually, neither the Goriya nor the rest of the monsters accomplish anything meaningful, and they end up returning to Ganon's command in the Underworld.

*The name "Dr. Left" is a pun on a nearly-identical character who appeared in a previous game, Mr. Write. Of course, the pun on the words write being pronounced as right, and right and left being opposites.
  +
*In OOA, Dr. Troy plays a similar role to that of Dr. Left; he will offer Link information about various characters and monsters throughout Labrynna. Dr. Troy speaks of the very same monsters as Dr. Left, with the exception of Golden Monsters, which do not appear in OOA.
  +
*Unlike almost all other humans in TMC, he refers to the Minish as "Minish" rather than "Picori". This is likely to demonstrate his knowledge of them compared to other humans.
  +
*The game Super Smash Bros. Brawl states that Dr. Left is a mock-up of Sim City's Dr. Wright, not only due to the obvious link in last name, but also an uncanny likeness in hairstyle and color.

Interestingly, although the Goriya in That Sinking Feeling seems to speak with poor grammar just like the rest of the Moblins, the Goriya seen in The Moblins are Revolting can be heard speaking very fluent English.

<br>
A Goriya briefly appears in the Having a Ball episode of Captain N: The Game Master. After Link, Princess Zelda, Kevin, and Princess Lana arrive at the tunnel leading to the Island Palace, a Goriya appears and rapidly begins to throw boomerangs nonstop toward the heroes. The boomerangs impede the group's progress, so Link uses his Magic Shield to block the attacks while the rest of the party follows closely behind. As the heroes approach the Goriya, Kevin uses his Zapper to defeat it, allowing them to continue to their destination.

Goriya are briefly mentioned in The Shadow Prince. Template:Character Dr. Left is an eclectic, sedentary biologist whom is seen researching Cuccos in Template:OOS, and the Picori in The Minish Cap. Although his character is significant to the plot in both games, he plays relatively minor roles.

Appearances

Oracle of Seasons

Dr. Left first appears as a Cucco-studying biologist living in a southeastern residence of Horon Village in Template:OOS. In return for lighting his torch with Ember Seeds, he rewards Link with a Cuccodex,[1] the first item in the trading sequence. Whenever Link speaks with him afterwards, the doctor will feed him seemingly random facts about characters or monsters found throughout Holodrum. All his tidbits of knowledge begin with the characteristic phrase, "My books tell me..."

"My books tell me...

The Minish Cap

Dr. Left later appears in The Minish Cap. Instead of researching Cuccos, he instead seems more interested in learning about the mysterious Picori race (better known as the "Minish").[2] He is the owner of the overdue Library Book, "Legend of the Picori", which Link must locate within Dr. Left's home and return to the library.[3] Before Link has to find the overdue library book, Dr. Left will not allow him into his house, as he is absorbed in his incessant study of the Minish race.[4] Ironically, Dr. Left is oblivious to the Minish living within his own home.[5] On occasion, Dr. Left will part with some seemingly valuable and exclusive information on the Minish, gleaned from hours of study.[6] This knowledge is laughingly inferior to what is already known by Link, due to his regular encounters with the Minish race on his adventures.

 • The name "Dr. Left" is a pun on a nearly-identical character who appeared in a previous game, Mr. Write. Of course, the pun on the words write being pronounced as right, and right and left being opposites.
 • In Template:OOA, Dr. Troy plays a similar role to that of Dr. Left; he will offer Link information about various characters and monsters throughout Labrynna. Dr. Troy speaks of the very same monsters as Dr. Left, with the exception of Golden Monsters, which do not appear in Template:OOA.
 • Unlike almost all other humans in The Minish Cap, he refers to the Minish as "Minish" rather than "Picori". This is likely to demonstrate his knowledge of them compared to other humans.
 • The game Super Smash Bros. Brawl states that Dr. Left is a mock-up of Sim City's Dr. Wright, not only due to the obvious link in last name, but also an uncanny likeness in hairstyle and color.
