:I never really liked those references as they are pretty silly most of the time.... They are probably not even intended by Nintendo and are just a fan's desire to find a non-existent connections to everything. :P If it were up to me, I'd delete all instances of such "cross-references"! Unless of course they are OBVIOUSLY intended, like with [[Roam]]. --[[User:Dany36|Dany36]] 00:51, 14 February 2012 (EST)

::Hey guys, the trivia bit was added by me, both times, and I feel it is legitimate because I was able to find references in the community of those who think the same. Trivia similar to this in the past did not have any references and was justly removed because it had ''no community support''. With trivia and theories here on ZW, we expect community support and because we are the wiki of the Zelda community we must be accurate in these areas to reflect what the community sees as viable. It is a self-correcting mechanism - if there isn't enough support, it simply does not get posted... but I was able to find two forum posts with legitimate discussion for it. In lieu of references, this should stay up! Furthermore, search "Tentalus" and "Monsters, Inc." in the same search; countless results pop up of Zelda players discussing the similarity. Without references, trivia is ''more'' questionable than not - I believe I've more than proved my case here. ;) {{:User:Cipriano/sig}} 10:33, 14 February 2012 (EST)

Template:Milk Bar

Where'd all my edits go?

Just now I noticed that all the edits I've made in the past few hours have vanished, along with any sign of their existence. All of the articles I've edited appear as they did before I edited them, and the edits no longer appear in Recent Changes or in my contribution log. I'm probably missing something really obvious, but what's going on here?--Osteoderm Jacket 17:41, 12 January 2012 (EST)

Same here, thats wierd, I updated Iris's page an hour ago by uploading her Sprite and it appears to have disappeared, the image and the changes, what just happened here? --Vaati The Wind Demon 17:49, 12 January 2012 (EST)
Hmm. If it happened to more than one person over the same interval I'm guessing it's a server problem.--Osteoderm Jacket 17:52, 12 January 2012 (EST)

Same, here reported it to staff XXSuperXXNintendoXx 17:52, 12 January 2012 (EST)

Does that mean I'l have to reupload the file or is it fixable? --Vaati The Wind Demon 17:55, 12 January 2012 (EST)

Seems like the wiki went down 2 days ago, so they uploaded a previous backup of the server where our edits today wern't back up on.

Ah. I take it my edits can't be recovered and I should go ahead and redo them, then?--Osteoderm Jacket 18:01, 12 January 2012 (EST)

To be safe, yes XXSuperXXNintendoXx 18:07, 12 January 2012 (EST)

It won't let me upload the image now, I get an error saying, "The upload directory (public) is not writable by the webserver.". How do I fix this? --Vaati The Wind Demon 19:00, 12 January 2012 (EST)
Thanks for letting us know, we're currently looking into this problem. We apologize for the inconvenience! --Dany36 19:11, 12 January 2012 (EST)

Shadow Dungeon Symbol

The current symbol for Shadow Dungeons is a dark and demonic bat head thing. In my opinion, I think it looks just a little bit silly. Wouldn't a black or purple skull be more suitable? Anyway, I'm not exactly complaining, I'm just trying to suggest changes for the better. Lahmaster 4:16, 13 January 2012 (AEST)

Not a bad idea. I hope Abdul can spot this suggestion (I suck horrendously at making decent templates other tha navigation templates and the like, so I apologize for my incompetence). --User:K2L/sig 02:05, 13 January 2012 (EST)
I don't really see how a black or purple skull is any less silly than the current symbol. Besides, this is Zelda. It's a series that allows for a bit of silliness, even in the more serious games.--Osteoderm Jacket 06:53, 14 January 2012 (EST)
It this point, we're really just nitpicking: skulls, bats, rats, ghosts - they could all suffice for "Shadow" dungeons, and there isn't one that's more representative than the other. This being said, a skull wouldn't really be a change for the better, it would be a change from something that works to something that works equally well. To that, I say let's leave it as is, cool thought though. User:Cipriano/sig 10:50, 17 January 2012 (EST)
Personally I think we should be using symbols from the game somewhere, given that the games already have symbols for more than half of the, uh, "elements" used. There is already quite a useful Shadow Medallion symbol, why not use that? Fizzle 13:39, 22 January 2012 (EST)
I agree with Fizzle. Using the Shadow Medallion makes much more sense than the current icon. Not only is it better representative of the element, but it's easily recognizable by people new to the wiki. MrBatman 12:03, 2 February 2012 (EST)
Other elements can be represented by their respective medallion symbols. File:Forest Medallion.png for Forest dungeons, File:Fire Medallion.png for Fire, File:Water Medallion.png for Water, obviously, File:Spirit Medallion.png possibly for Desert? I know its "Spirit" but the Spirit Temple is a desert temple, so go figure. To be honest I'm not even sure if we need any more aside from File:Shadow Medallion.png Shadow, that covers most dungeons aside from neutral ones if you ask me. Maybe Light for dungeons like Tower of the Gods and Sky Keep. Fizzle 14:11, 3 February 2012 (EST)
If I remember correctly, the medallions were used for the element infobox field before the Element template was created. The thing is, there's no Ice Medallion, Earth Medallion, or Wind Medallion. If we did use medallions, we'd end up having to use something completely different for the other elements, and that would just look plain weird. Consistency is key: if we could accomplish that with in-game symbols, great. But we can't (right?), so that's why we're using the ones we are now. I really don't see any problem with the symbols we have now. That template is really just for show anyway, and Abdullah worked pretty hard on those images :P — Hylian King [*] 21:29, 3 February 2012 (EST)
I agree. That would just look kind of wierd. But I think that maybe we could find something better for the Shadow Dungeon symbol. I kind of like the idea of the skull, it just kind adds more fear then a bat thing, not that that really matters. And in the case of the medallions, my first zelda game was the latest one at the time, Spirit Tracks. I didn't even know about Ocarina of Time until the commercials for the 3DS remake came up so I would've originally looked at the shadow medallion and said "What on earth is that!'. --Person777 13:16, 4 February 2012 (EST)
There MUST be a suitable ice symbol somewhere. As for the other two... What the heck is an Earth Temple anyway? There's only two Earth Temples and they're both Shadow and Fire elements respectively. Same with Wind, there's only two of them and one of them is more like Shadow (or Earth, even, oddly) than Wind and the other is more like Forest. Oh, wait, there's the Wind Palace... nevermind. Isn't there a Wind symbol in TWW or TMC somewhere? I'm sure there's one in TMC. Also, I don't mean bad to Abdullah, I appreciate the contribution of course, but... I... kind of liked the older ones better, personally. Don't hurt me! User:Fizzle/sig 19:08, 4 February 2012 (EST)

Gerudo Desert in Ocarina of Time

Is it a reason that the facts about the Gerudo Desert from Ocarina of Time is removed? If not, can someone fix the article? --Niklas 14:46, 26 January 2012 (EST)

The desert in Ocarina of Time is never referred to as the Gerudo desert, so I removed it. --Dany36 17:44, 26 January 2012 (EST)
Ok, but where is that article then? --Niklas 02:27, 27 January 2012 (EST)
Haunted Wasteland and Desert Colossus. Gerudo Desert now has a little note at the top clarifying this. User:Abdullah/sig 02:55, 27 January 2012 (EST)

The Legend of Zelda Roleplay Site

Hello. I'm starting a The Legend of Zelda roleplay site. I've been using exclusive pictures and information from the Zelda Wiki, and use it for all my sources. I was wondering if the Zelda Wiki would Affiliate with me, with my site specified as a roleplay site, as I need ways to gather players. I'd post a link to my site, but that would be quite presumptuous.

If this is not allowed, is there a popular Wiki for The Legend of Zelda fanfiction or fanon that might allow a link to my site? Again, most Wikis list their fanon cousins, but the Zelda Wiki doesn't seem to. Pikmin Fanon is in NIWA, but it seems to be the only fanon Wiki in it.

I hope to get a response from someone high enough in the Zelda Wiki for a definite answer. Rest assured, I would be fine if the answer was no. I would just prefer someone point me in the right direction if so.

Questionable "references" to other media.

I am putting this down here to avoid an edit war, because I'm seeing an issue cropping up more and more recently. On the Tentalus page, there seems a consistent attempt to include the fact that Tentalus looks a bit like a Monster's Inc. character. I, personally, think this is silly (its a generic looking cyclops monster rendered in 3D, of COURSE it looks a bit like a generic Monster's Inc. character, that doesn't mean its noteworthy), and replaced it with what I thought was more interesting; that its possibly a reference to Medusa from Kid Icarus (look it up, her old design is pretty damn similar, and its a Nintendo game, possibly cross-reference in action). Rather than simply add the Monster's Inc. thing back, my trivia was removed entirely in favour of the Monster's Inc. trivia on the flimsy basis of some FORUM posts.

Obviously I could just revert it back again, but to avoid an edit war I want to just get the policy straight, as I am seeing this more and more recently; me and K2L removed references to General Grevious, a Star Wars character, from the Stalmaster page, because its not noteworthy (Grevious is NOT the only four-armed warrior in fiction, by any means), and Demise had mention that he looked like Akuma from Street Fighter (because they're both based on oni, not because Demise is based on Akuma). By the same logic, we should probably mention on the Link page that he looks a bit like Peter Pan, or that Fairies look like Tinkerbell.

Anyway, am I wrong on this? Surely there's some policy when it comes to mentioning similarities of this nature. I wanna just get this straightened out rather than stuck in back and forths all the time. User:Fizzle/sig 19:25, 4 February 2012 (EST)

I never really liked those references as they are pretty silly most of the time.... They are probably not even intended by Nintendo and are just a fan's desire to find a non-existent connections to everything. :P If it were up to me, I'd delete all instances of such "cross-references"! Unless of course they are OBVIOUSLY intended, like with Roam. --Dany36 00:51, 14 February 2012 (EST)

Another clueless image uploading question

Hi there, Osteoderm Jacket again. I've found higher-quality maps of some of the dungeons in Link's Awakening. Can I just go ahead and upload an improved version of an image without asking anyone, or is there a procedure that I'm supposed to follow first? The help section on image uploading doesn't say anything about it. Also, for future reference, is this the sort of thing I should just assume I can do without asking first, and what things on this wiki am I able to do immediately but in practice should ask permission for first?

Also, I understand that if they're a different file type from the image to be replaced I can't actually upload them as a new version of that file. Obviously I could just upload them as separate files and then put them in the places where the old image is used, but then what do I do with the old image?--Osteoderm Jacket 00:03, 14 February 2012 (EST)

As for your first question, yes, you can go ahead and replace it without consulting anyone. Just make sure you cite where you got the image from! Secondly, there are quite a few things you could go ahead and do in the wiki without discussion, but it is usually not advised!! Since this is a community project, all members should at least have a say in any big changes that pertain to the wiki. Anything that has to do with articles (moving, merging, splitting, etc.) should always be discussed first. Things dealing with images don't really have to be discussed, however, such as what you are trying to do.
Lastly, the superseded image (in case you uploaded it separately) should be marked with the Imdel template and say it has been superseded or something to that effect. All pages linking to that image should also be removed and replaced with the better one. Hope that helps! --Dany36 00:45, 14 February 2012 (EST)
Thanks! Sorry I'm such a n00b. I just have a strict "better safe than sorry" policy about matters where I'm ignorant.--Osteoderm Jacket 00:53, 14 February 2012 (EST)
If only all our users had that same policy :P User:Abdullah/sig 05:58, 14 February 2012 (EST)
