Link's version of the completed Soul Edge in SoulCalibur II, based on the Master Sword and Hylain Shield

Soul Edge (Complete) is one of Link's ten unlockable weapons in Soulcalibur II.

Location and Uses[]

In the Namco fighting game, although the evil entity sword Soul Edge, itself the central antagonist of the Soul series, is normally wielded by Nightmare, Cervantes, as well as Charade and Inferno (who are a fragment and its soul, respectively), every single character in SoulCalibur II, including guests (but not hidden), have a unique version of the demonic blade in its completed state, in which it can transform itself accordingly to that of the characters' signature weapons, as it is made entirely out of organic material. In the case of Link, Soul Edge is in the appearance of a wicked form of his Master Sword and Hylian Shield. Notably, unlike some other forms of Soul Edge (Complete) in-game, Link's version does not have grotesque eyes on the sword or shield.

This weapon is unlocked in Weapon Master mode by paying 7,800 Gold in the Castor Shop. It increases Link's offense and defense greatly to 140% and 135%, respectively, making it overall the strongest weapon in his arsenal (except for the Cane of Byrna using Soul Charge which his attack power reaches 150%). However, Link slowly loses health when equipped, draining 2 HP per second. Consequently, this can lead to a more offensive battle style for the player.

Like the Armos Series unlockable weapon, Soul Edge (Complete) is exclusive to SoulCalibur II and is also a weapon for Link that does not originate from any game of The Legend of Zelda series.

In-game description[]

"Fearsome demonic weapon said to excel in offense and defense..."
— Weapon Gallery description.

An evil blade with a reputation for devouring souls. This weapon is also known to be a shape shifter -- which form it takes depends on its owner. The forms it has taken are legendary, as are the souls of the renowned warriors it has consumed. Only those with great mental discipline can retain their will while wielding this weapon. It is an evil weapon which saps the strength of the enemy it wounds and rends the soul of the one who holds it.

Trivia[]

  • According the Soul Calibur II's story, Soul Edge in its complete form is so terribly powerful, not even Soul Calibur, the titular holy sword with powers comparable to the Master Sword and Four Sword, can stand against it.

  • Although the Hero of Time's mission in SoulCalibur II is to outright destroy Soul Edge to completely save Hyrule and himself being able to optionally wield the true state of the demonic sword itself seems out of character for a Nintendo icon like Link, as the main protagonist of The Legend of Zelda series is widely known for vanquishing evil, usually his archnemesis Ganon, and has a pure heart, this is however not unheard of by the game's release; On rare occasions in the Zelda franchise, Link is capable of harnessing dark powers if necessary. A well-known example is his notorious Fierce Deity Link transformation by the Fierce Deity's Mask in Majora's Mask, a deadly, mysterious form with god-like strength - something Soul Edge (Complete) is also said to possess.
