This article is about the race. For other uses, see Skull Kid.
Skullkids are a race of cursed people that reside within the Lost Woods in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, and in the Sacred Grove in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. They are suggested (by Navi) to be what Kokiri become if they get lost in the woods and can't get back out. She also describes them as "unhappy to have no face." However, Skullkids are not the only possible example of creatures being warped by the woods; according to a young Kokiri that Link meets on one of his sidequests in Ocarina of Time, Hylians gradually become Stalfos when they get lost in the woods, and in Four Swords Adventures, the Dekus claim that getting lost will turn someone into one of them.
Skullkids look similar to Kokiri, which lends credence to Navi's explanation; the chief differences are that their skin is made out of wood, their eyes are glowing yellow, and they have a beak instead of a mouth. (However, in the Twilight Princess, Skullkids do appear to have a mouth). Although Skullkids tend to like to wear masks over their faces, the majority of them do not. While Skullkids are friendly to younger Hylians, they show a fear towards adults and will attack them on sight. The most famous member of this race is the Skull Kid who stole Majora's Mask from the Happy Mask Salesman. Another Skullkid buys the Skull Mask from Link, and two others give Link a Piece of Heart if he plays Saria's Song. If Link plays his Ocarina in a memory game with them, two other Skullkids will also give him a Piece of Heart.
