disambig

"Gyorg" is a term referring to two different cartilaginous fish-like creatures in The Legend of Zelda series:

Gargantuan Masked Fish: Gyorg is the the first boss in Majora's Mask, located in the Great Bay Temple. It appears in the form of a giant chimaera. It is Gyorg who imprisoned the third of the Four Giants. Without its Deity, the waters of the Great Bay Coast become polluted and dangerous.

Strategy
Link will face off against Gyorg on a raised, octagonal-shaped platform surrounded by water, where Gyorg will be lurking. Gyorg will attempt to knock Link off the platform by ramming into it. Therefore, it is wise for Link to stay in the middle of the platform when Gyorg attacks. If Link falls into the water and gets too close to Gyorg, Gyorg will swallow him, then spit him out, causing damage. Occasionally, Gyorg will leap out of the water and soar across the platform to hit Link. When Gyorg is about to attack, a rushing sound can be heard. Bubbles will also appear above Gyorg, allowing Link to anticipate Gyorg's attacks. Partway through the battle, Gyorg will summon Garahnas to harm Link in the water.

To defeat Gyorg, Link must use either his Arrows or his Boomerang-fins in Zora form to stun him. He must then dive in the water and damage Gyorg with Zora-Link's electrical barrier. It is also possible to stun him with the electrical attack while in the water. Once Gyorg is defeated, the third of the Four Giants will be freed, returning the Great Bay Coast to normal. Link also receives Gyorg's Remains, and, of course, a Heart Container.

The Minish Cap
Gyorg Pair

A similar boss called the Gyorg Pair also makes an appearance in The Minish Cap. It is arguably the largest boss in the game, appearing in the form of a large, red manta ray, surrounded by smaller, yet identical rays of blue coloration. Link, at his time, has obtained the power to split into three forms, and upon reaching the Gyorg Pair atop the Palace of Winds, he must locate and annihilate the open eyes of the main ray, while avoiding it's attacks and interference by the smaller manta ray Gyorgs. Other than their names and the fact that they are both fish, the Gyorg Pair bears no similarities whatsoever to the Gyorg of Majora's Mask.

*Gyorg's name may come from the Japanese word Gyo, meaning fish.

The Gyorg is a recurring, shark-like enemy in The Legend of Zelda series, first introduced in The Wind Waker.

Appearances
The Wind Waker
The Gyorgs in The Wind Waker, are fierce-looking shark-like enemies that inhabit The Great Sea. If Link encounters a Gyorg while sailing, it will attempt to knock Link out of his boat, the King of Red Lions, by ramming it head-on. It can also attack Link by biting him, should he encounter one in the water. Gyorgs usually attack alone, or in groups of two to five. If Link encounters a group of Gyorgs while he is immobile, either in or out of the boat, they will circle him. Soon after, one of them venture in to ram the boat or bite Link. They can be killed with two hits of the Boomerang or Arrows, or with one shot of the Cannon.

According to the description of the Gyorg figurine in the Nintendo Gallery, Gyorgs are commonly known as "Ocean Killing Machines."

Phantom Hourglass
Gyorgs in Phantom Hourglass appear almost the same as they do in The Wind Waker, only larger. Much like in The Wind Waker, they will swim alongside the S. S. Linebeck and attack it by ramming it. If the S. S. Linebeck is immobile, they proceed to partially submerge where only its fin is visible, and then swim back and forth some distance ahead of Link until he begins sailing again. Since Gyorgs are only encountered out in the Ocean, the Cannon is the only weapon capable of defeating them. They can only be killed if they are hit when they leap out of the water. If Link hits them with his Cannon while they are in the water, they will simply submerge and reemerge somewhere else.

Spirit Tracks
Malgyorg

A different form of Gyorg appears in Spirit Tracks under the name of Malgyorg. It acts and looks the exact same as Gyorgs from The Wind Waker. However, they are yellow in color rather than the original purple. They are much larger than their oceanic cousins, and they reside in the sands of the arid Sand Realm rather than in the Ocean. They usually travel in groups that range from 2 to 4. Since they only appear while Link is roaming the overworld on the Spirit Tracks, the Cannon is the only weapon capable of defeating them.

Trivia
*In The Wind Waker, if Link uses a Tingle Bomb on a Gyorg, it will not simply explode. Instead, it will sink into the water, then, shortly after, the carcass will resurface and float on the water for a short period of time.

*Gyorg's name may come from the Japanese word Gyo, meaning fish.
