The Rusty Gear is an archetype of Weapon in Breath of the Wild.[1]

Location and Uses[]

Rusty Gear consists of Weapons that were once used by Knights of Hyrule.[2][3] Over time, lack of maintenance and exposure to the elements have decayed the quality of these Weapons, causing them to become brittle and lowering their Durability.[2][3][4][5]

If a piece of Rusty Gear is placed in front of a Rock Octorok while it is inhaling air, it will swallow the Weapon and pause to crunch it in its mouth.[1] After this, it will shoot it back out as a cleaned counterpart.[1] After being cleaned, there is a 50% chance that the item will be its corresponding item in the Traveler's Gear archetype, a 35% chance that it will be of the Soldier's Gear, a 10% chance that it will be of the Knight's Gear, and a 5% chance that it will be of the Royal Gear.

As Rusty Gear is made from metal, all Weapons in this series sink when placed in Water, but they do not burn when exposed to Fire or a Scorching Climate. They will attract Lightning during Thunderstorms and conduct Electricity, and they can be manipulated through the Magnesis Rune.

When scanned with the amiibo Rune, the Breath of the Wild Series Guardian amiibo has a chance to spawn a Treasure Chest containing a piece of Rusty Gear.
