In Phantom Hourglass, Zauz is the blacksmith who helps Link by forging the Phantom Blade used to defeat Bellum. He tells Link how to go deeper into the Temple of the Ocean King, with a secret drawing to find the chart that will help Link. It is around this time that Link makes his first encounter with the Swift Phantom.
When Zauz first speaks to Ciela, he indicates that he is not human; later dialog suggests he is of the Cobble race, which defended the Ocean King. His dark skin and large, oddly-colored nose, features shared by King Mutoh and his Knights, support this theory. Zauz has a large purple tattoo running over his shoulder similar to that of Baito, and off colored nose and orange eyes, which make him look a bit like a Gerudo, more likely the Ocarina of Time Ganondorf, it seems to have some sort of relation with Jolene and Joanne, both of them also Gerudo-like, by the fact he finish the Phantom Sword by the time you end your battle with Jolene.
