Rain is recurring weather event in The Legend of Zelda series.[1] Rain can often occur naturally, or be summoned with Items.
Overview[]
Ocarina of Time[]
In Ocarina of Time, playing the "Song of Storms" on the Ocarina of Time will summon rain and trigger certain events, such as filling the Desert Colossus oasis. Rain and wind will appear even if the Song is played indoors.
Majora's Mask[]
In Majora's Mask, playing the "Song of Storms" on the Ocarina of Time will summon rain and trigger certain events. Rain and wind will appear even if the song is played indoors.
Clock Town, the Swamp Fishing Hole and the Ocean Fishing Hole will experience rain on the Second Day from 7AM to 12AM. Rain will cause the Termina Loach to swim near the water's surface and the Goodta Goby to swim deeper underwater, making them easier to catch with standard lure and sinking lure respectively.
The Wind Waker[]
In The Wind Waker an endless night occurs when Ganondorf casts a curse across the Great Sea, resulting in a thunderstorm that creates choppy seas and strong winds. Visibility is reduced as the world is cast in darkness. On Outset Island all of the residents will hide indoors as Chuchus and Miniblins have appeared across the island. The Ghost Ship will always appear in its pre-determined location.
Twilight Princess[]
In Twilight Princess, after Zant injures Midna and Link must carry her to Princess Zelda, it is raining on the way to Hyrule Castle. Additionally, upon entering Hyrule Castle to battle Ganondorf, it is raining in the courtyard. Rain has no effect on Link.[citation needed]
Breath of the Wild[]
In Breath of the Wild, rain will randomly occur in warmer regions. Rain makes climbing surfaces become slick, which makes them difficult to climb as Link will periodically slip and fall. Rain will immediately extinguish any exposed fires, with the exception of Ancient Flames. Flames that are sheltered from the rain are not affected. Empty shelters can be found alongside roads, and Link can create temporary shelters on waterfalls using the Cryonis rune, as rain will not penetrate the blocks it creates.
Zora's Domain and the surrounding region will permanently experience rain until Divine Beast Vah Ruta has been purged of Waterblight Ganon.
