Pyrups are enemies in Skyward Sword.[1]

Characteristics[]

Fi's Comment
Fi says:

Target lock: Pyrup

This skittish monster prefers to hide in small holes or inside the skeletal remains of deceased creatures.

Once the cowardly Pyrup finds a small space from which to spit flames, it becomes unapproachable.

You will need to employ a clever strategy to defeat it. Inflicting damage from a distance may be the only way.

Pyrups are fish-like, pinniped enemies that inhabit fiery areas, especially within the Eldin Volcano. They are cowardly creatures that quickly flee and hide in holes in walls or the remains of deceased creatures, from which they breathe a continuous stream of fire when Link draws close. At times their stream of fire will block the path forward, preventing Link from progressing ahead. To defeat them, Link must use a Bomb or Bomb Flower and set it off near the hole where the Pyrup is hidden in. The easiest method is to roll a Bomb toward the hole, allowing Link to stand from a safe distance. The resulting explosion, if it reaches the Pyrup, will kill the enemy.

Some Pyrups will take residence in an abandoned shell or the skeletal remains of another creature, as opposed to hiding in a wall. To defeat these Pyrups, Link must either throw a Bomb into the opening on the top of their shell or roll it underneath, defending on what the Pyrup has lodged itself into. Link can also stab the Pyrup with his Sword if there is an opening in the shell.

Nomenclature[]

Pyrup derives from "pyro", the Greek word for fire, and possibly "pup", short for "puppy", referring to their small, juvenile appearance.
