Lanayru Gorge is an area in SS located in Lanayru Province just outside the Lanayru Caves. Lanayru Gorge is home to Lanayru, the Thunder Dragon. Like every area of Lanayru Desert, it is a barren wasteland in the present, but in the past it is full of life.

Skyward Sword
Lanayru Gorge is one of the three areas that Link is required to visit in order to learn parts of the "Song of the Hero". It becomes accessible after Golo, the Goron miner, finally completes his mining expedition. Link manages to find the location of the Thunder Dragon, Lanayru, but in the present he has passed away, leaving only behind his skeletal remains. The young hero must transport a Timeshift Stone in a minecart through the mine and deliver it safely to the Thunder Dragon. Upon reaching its destination, the main part Lanayru Gorge is restored to its former glory and the Thunder Dragon can be found still alive, although sick.

Lanayru is seriously ill in this time, and the Ancient Robots, in an attempt to cure him, planted a Tree of Life seedling here, hoping to use the powerful healing properties of its fruit. Despite all of their efforts to make the tree grow, the seedling cannot flourish in the Lanayru Province. Link manages to find a more suitable location in the Sealed Grounds of the past for the Tree of Life to grow and is able to bring the fruit to Lanayru to cure what ails him. After being healed, Lanayru teaches the hero the Final Part of the "Song of The Hero". The dragon also subsequently opens up a minigame called the Thunder Dragon's Lightning Round.

Lanayru Gorge in the past is a green landscape bursting with activity, but in the present it is a barren wasteland occupied by monsters including the Technoblin, Deku Babas, Beamos, and Quadro Baba.
