Old Man Ulrira,(LADX | LANS)[3][4] also known as Grandpa Ulrira,(LA | LADX | HW)[2][5] is a recurring character and Item in The Legend of Zelda series.

The old man is a walking encyclopedia of Koholint Island. He knows everything about the island! However, he is not very talkative and it can be difficult to get information out of him. His wife is the loud old woman who loves sweeping the front of her house.

Grandpa Ulrira is a shy old man who lives in Mabe Village.[6] If Link talks to him face to face in his house, he will tell Link to speak to him through a telephone outside.[7] Wherever Link calls Grandpa Ulrira through a Telephone Booth, he gives him helpful hints on how his current challenge. He is married to Grandma Yahoo,[2] a loud, cheerful old woman who spends her time sweeping Koholint Island with her broom.

Grandpa Ulrira is said to know everything about Koholint Island,[8] and often tells Link exactly what he needs to do to progress in his quest.[9]

In Link's Awakening DX, Link can take a peek through the window of Old Man Ulrira's House. If he does, the Photographer appears and snaps a Photograph of Grandpa Ulrira through the window, revealing his talkative nature.

Hyrule Warriors Legends[]

In Hyrule Warriors Legends, Grandpa Ulrira appears as an Item Card for the Koholint Island Map in the Link's Awakening DLC Pack. It is used to answer phones which unlocks secret rewards.

Trivia[]

  • If Link makes a call from the phone inside of Old Man Ulrira's House, it dials the number of someone calling himself the Bucket Mouse. After he hangs up, a message appears saying that Link must have dialed the wrong number.[10]
    • In the French versions, the phone calls Madonna and she will speak to Link in a mix of French and English.[11]
    • In the German version, the person calling fills out a meal order for a pizzeria, "Da Mario."[12]
