Arrows are often the only object able to activate Switches within Dungeons and across the Overworld. In OoT, MM and BotW, normal Arrows can be set on fire with a torch or other flame source to melt ice and solve Puzzles before the Fire Arrows are acquired.

Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, TP and Breath of the Wild incorporate the use of Arrows in horseback fighting. Enemies such as Bulblins ride alongside Link, moving sporadically enough that the Sword cannot be used reliably. The Arrow, with its long-range capabilities, can sling and force these enemies off of their steeds from afar.

In TLoZ, rather than using actual Arrows, a Rupee is consumed for each shot from the Bow. In FS and FSA, the Bow has unlimited Arrows, and therefore does not have Arrows as items.

As it has been pointed out elsewhere, this article's information has now become outdated with the release of newer games. It doesn't use any references, and although the topic is a very popular one, it's highly subjective when compared to the largely factual body of information normally promoted as Featured. --Adamcox82 08:23, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

#As one of the original authors, I definitely feel that the page has bounced between 'less then perfect' and 'total crap' for quite some time... it was written under a completely different atmosphere then the (preferable) one that currently permeates the wiki and for a completely different period of zelda-related theory. The article could not possibly be 'brought up to date': the entire timeline-series needs to be almost totally redone. Disqulify and, if there's no change in a couple months (the chances of which are slim, likely dependent on myself and one other party ), delete. --Mmmmm PIE 03:14, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

#Meh. No sources, too much subjectivity (which, given the topic makes it... tolerable?), not to mention, as stated, it's outdated given the recent releases. Also, the writing style doesn't strike me as very encyclopedic. --Ando <small>(T)</small> 00:18, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

When this article was featured, it was definitely the nest website article on the wiki, having been one of the first to use the infobox and be properly subdivided and include references. However, now that so many other website articles have been improved in the same way, it's simply average. Fairly short, and it seems a little unfair to promote only one of our member sites in this way. Also, nearly a year on it seems that the controversy of the launch must have died down enough to make it less than newsworthy. --Adamcox82 08:23, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Maybe controversial, but this article seems to me to be just one amongst many. It's no longer the latest game (as it was when it became Featured), and wasn't actually voted in but rather selected by the staff. Also, the single token reference doesn't really cut it, and the YouTube video included doesn't work. --Adamcox82 08:23, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Also introduced in Breath of the Wild, the Ancient Arrow is a special type of arrow designed specifically for defeating Guardian enemies. It deals moderate damage to Bosses, but heavy damage to Guardians; if an Ancient Arrow strikes a Guardian directly in the eye, the Guardian is instantly defeated. If used on used on enemies other than Guardians and Bosses, the enemy, as well as its Weapons, will vanish into a blue portal. Enemies that vanish due to the Ancient Arrow will not drop any Materials. This arrow is the rarest type to obtain in the wild, as only a handful of them can be found throughout Hyrule. The main way to obtain them is to bring the Blue Flame in Akkala to Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, which reactivates the robot Cherry. Once this is done, Ancient equipment, including Ancient Arrows, can be bought from Cherry for a sum of Rupees and a number of Ancient Materials.
This image is rather small. The quality is not up to par with the other featured pictures. The source is also unknown.--Matt 22:57, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

[[|]] Arrows are projectiles used in conjunction with the Bow, appearing in several games in Template:LZS.

Location and Uses

OoT3D Arrow Icon

The main function of Arrows is piercing objects and enemies from afar. Arrows are a replenishable item, so the Bow will not function without them.[1] The amount of Arrows Link can hold can usually be increased by upgrading the Quiver[2]. They can be bought at various Shops,[3] from Business Scrubs,[4] or freely gathered by cutting grass, defeating enemies, or in small Treasure Chests scattered around the Overworld and Dungeons.

Arrows are often the only object able to activate Switches within Dungeons and across the Overworld. In Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Breath of the Wild, normal Arrows can be set on fire with a torch or other flame source to melt ice and solve Puzzles before the Fire Arrows are acquired.

Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild incorporate the use of Arrows in horseback fighting. Enemies such as Bulblins ride alongside Link, moving sporadically enough that the Sword cannot be used reliably. The Arrow, with its long-range capabilities, can sling and force these enemies off of their steeds from afar.

In The Legend of Zelda, rather than using actual Arrows, a Rupee is consumed for each shot from the Bow. In Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures, the Bow has unlimited Arrows, and therefore does not have Arrows as items.

In Breath of the Wild, rather than having one set of arrows shared between all enchantments and addons like previous games featuring multiple types, there is a separate supply of arrows for each type.

Arrow Upgrades

Fire Arrow

Main article: Fire Arrow

The Fire Arrow is mostly used for melting ice, lighting Torches, and burning wood and spiderwebs. It is also a powerful weapon in battle against enemies such as Anubises. Shooting a standard Arrow through a Torch lights the Arrow, turning it into a Fire Arrow. This technique can be used in Dungeons before Link obtains the Fire Arrows, or when the Magic Meter has been exhausted.

Ice Arrow

Main article: Ice Arrow

The Ice Arrow functions primarily to freeze objects and enemies.[5][6] In Ocarina of Time it is entirely optional, however, Majora's Mask incorporates it as a required item in the Great Bay Temple, as it is necessary to complete the Dungeon. It also requires the Magic Meter to be used.

Silver Arrow

Main article: Silver Arrow
TLoZ Silver Arrow Artwork

The Silver Arrow is used in The Legend of Zelda and A Link to the Past to defeat Ganon,[7] although they are changed to the Light Arrow in later games. The Silver Arrow is infused with a evil-piercing power that is effective when defeating Ganon during the climax of many early games.[8] However, even though it is equippable, the Silver Arrow acts like a standard Arrow to all other enemies.

Light Arrow

Main article: Light Arrow
Tplightarrows

Like the Silver Arrow, the Light Arrow is required to defeat Ganon, but is sometimes used by Princess Zelda instead of Link.[9] These holy Arrows are also infused with evil-brandishing light[10] just like the Master Sword, having equal power against dark beasts. Light Arrows can defeat almost any enemy in one shot in The Wind Waker and The Minish Cap.

Bomb Arrow

Main article: Bomb Arrow

The Bomb Arrow first appeared in Link's Awakening, although not as an equippable item. It can be used by placing a Bomb and then shooting it with an Arrow. It later appears in Twilight Princess as an alternative option to standard Arrows.[11] It can be used to shoot far enemies and to destroy rocks that are out of reach.[12] It returns in Breath of the Wild as a separate type of Arrow, rather than being a combination of a Bomb and an Arrow.

Shock Arrow

BotW Shock Arrow Icon

Breath of the Wild introduces the Shock Arrow, a new type of Arrow which deals electrical damage and stuns the target. When shot at a body of water, it creates a damaging area of effect around where the arrow landed. Shock Arrows also inflict extra damage when used in the rain.[13] It can be used by Link, but strong enemies such as the Lizalfos in the Zonai Ruins and the Lynel also use them.

Ancient Arrow

BotW Ancient Arrow Icon
