Floor Spikes,[1] also known as Spiked Floors,[2] are recurring traps in Template:LZS.

Characteristics and Weaknesses

A Link to the Past

In A Link to the Past, Floor Spikes can be avoided by using the Magic Cape, as Link can walk right over them with no harm done. The Magic Cape is necessary to obtain the Cane of Byrna, as it is preceded by a number of Floor Spikes that Link would be unable to traverse safely otherwise.

Ocarina of Time

In Ocarina of Time, many Floor Spikes are found inside the Water Temple, typically blocking passage until the water level rises. In the Shadow Temple, certain Floor Spikes are invisible, requiring that Link use the Lens of Truth in order to see them. The Hover Boots can also be used to walk above spikes, momentarily avoiding damage, while the Goron Tunic causes Link to take damage less frequently from them.

Oracle of Seasons

In Oracle of Seasons, in order to defeat Dodongo, the boss from Snake's Remains, Link must toss it to the Spiked Floor found in the center of the room after stunning it with a Bomb.

The Wind Waker

In The Wind Waker, Floor Spikes appear in the Forsaken Fortress and the Wind Temple, though in the former they are unable to damage Link and serve only to obstruct his path. In both Dungeons, the spikes can usually be retracted once a certain puzzle is solved or all enemies in the area have been defeated.

Twilight Princess

In Twilight Princess, Floor Spikes appear within the Arbiter's Grounds, where they emerge from holes in the floor only when Link draws near enough. Several of their locations are also concealed by Quicksand, making it difficult to judge their position and maneuver around them. When they are above the ground, however, Link is able to destroy them permanently using Bombs.

Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks

In Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, Floor Spikes appear inside numerous Dungeons, where they serve to impede Link's progress and will damage him on contact. Link can usually deactivate them by defeating enemies and solving puzzles. In both games, Phantoms are able to move over Floor Spikes without injury due to their heavy armor. As such, Princess Zelda can also harness this immunity when she gains the ability to possess Phantoms in Spirit Tracks, and use it to cross over the spikes and help solve puzzles normally out of Link's reach.

Phantom Hourglass also introduces spikes that move up and down intermittently, so that Link must be quick to pass over them safely during their brief periods of inactivity.

Skyward Sword

In Skyward Sword, Floor Spikes appear within a single room inside the Lanayru Mining Facility, where they are stealthily concealed by large amounts of sand. They activate quickly when Link draws near, similar to Twilight Princess. This requires Link to work his way through the mazelike room by using the Gust Bellows to blow away the sand and find a safe path.

Tri Force Heroes

In Tri Force Heroes, Floor Spikes are found in certain areas throughout the Ice Cavern in the Drablands. Here, fireballs can be bounced across them using the Fire Gloves, which is used to light torches that are otherwise out of reach.
