Monster Strongholds are recurring locations in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][name reference needed] Monster Strongholds go unnamed in Skyward Sword.

Features and Overview[]

Skyward Sword[]

Monster Strongholds are encampments scattered throughout the Eldin Volcano in the Eldin Province in Skyward Sword. They are usually inhabited by Red Bokoblins who live in crude tents, though Moblins can also appear. Monster Strongholds typically have towers occupied by Red Bokoblin sentries who watch for intruders and alert the inhabitants when one is spotted. These towers can be toppled with Bombs, dispatching the sentries atop them.

After Eldin Volcano erupts, Red Bokoblins occupy the entire mountain, converting it into one massive Monster Stronghold. Monster Strongholds can be found east of Volcano East, outside the entrance to the Thrill Digger Mini-Game, and east of the Temple Entrance.

Later in the game, all of the Monster Strongholds are abandoned, so Kortz decides to take residence inside one of the huts,[2][3][4] while Merco can be found outside, wondering what Red Bokoblins eat.[5]

Breath of the Wild[]

Monster strongholds are the main habitations of enemies such as Bokoblins and Lizalfos. These camps come in many forms, and a few of these are:

- Large platforms on a tree, supported by logs and inhabited by several bokoblins and, rarely, lizalfos.

-Very large wooden platforms spanning multiple levels supported by a tree. The lower levels are defended by bokoblins on watchtowers, as well as another archer on the highest level. The levels are inhabited by a great many bokoblins, and chests and bomb barrels can be found here. There is often a guard at the bottom or a tall watchtower nearby.

-A campfire surrounded by three bokoblins, and defended by a watchtower.

-A platform floating on water, made of wood and fish bone. These are inhabited exclusively by lizalfos, and the platforms are often connected by bridges.----

Tears of the Kingdom[]

Monster strongholds act largely the same as they did in Breath of the Wild. They are more varied in design, however, and can now be found in caves. New designs include: -A series of skulls stacked on top of each other, inhabited by Bokoblins, Aerocudas, and Moblins.

-A skull fortress floating in the quicksand of the Gerudo Desert inhabited by Bokoblins and Lizalfos.

Some strongholds are actually Battle Taluses in disguise, they appear to be normal strongholds, but approaching them will reveal their true form.

Us Mogmas live in the ground, so we don't have what you would call "houses." I just wanted to see what it felt like to say "Welcome to my place!"" — Kortz (Skyward Sword)

And I want to know who's dropping by my dirty hovel. Oh, and just 'cause you're all rested doesn't mean you can roll around and bust the place up!" — Kortz (Skyward Sword)
