The Mega Thwomp is an enemy in Link's Awakening.[1] Its name and appearance is derived from the Thwomp enemies of the Mario series.

Characteristics

A single Mega Thwomp appears in an underground, side-scrolling passage of the Key Cavern. It suspends itself over a pit of spikes in a hole in the ceiling, and can be reached by climbing a ladder on either side. Unlike most other Thwomps, however, this enemy will not drop down if Link passes beneath it while jumping over the spikes. The Mega Thwomp will drop when ramming into it with the Pegasus Boots while equipped with the Sword, causing it to crack and plummet helplessly to the floor. As the ledge to the next area is too high for Link to reach on his own, the Mega Thwomp can then be used as a harmless stepping stone for reaching the next area.
