Maike is a character in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.[2]

Biography[]

Maike is a Gerudo merchant who runs a General Store in the Kara Kara Bazaar. She sells Monster Parts and Food.

If Link speaks to Maike during the day, she will attempt to say "good morning" in the Hylian language, and she explains that the appropriate word in the Gerudo is sav'otta.[3] At night, she will try to say "good evening" in Hylian, and she likewise explains that the Gerudo say sav'sabba instead.[4] She also incorrectly says "welcome" as "well come" and explains that they say vasaaq in Gerudo.[5] Maike reveals that her younger sister, Estan, runs a butcher shop Stall in Gerudo Town, and that he should visit her since she knows Hylian well.[1] However, Maike quickly realizes that as a man, Link would not be allowed to enter Gerudo Town to do so.[6]

During the Forbidden City Entry" Main Quest, Link can ask Maike if she has seen anyone suspicious in Kara Kara Bazaar.[7] Maike will be unable to recall someone of that description, and since she spends all her time at her General Store, she is unsure how she would be able to spot a Merchant.[8] She suggests that Link ask one of the Hylian Merchants who are camping at Kara Kara Bazaar instead.[9]

If Link walks near her wearing the Gerudo Outfit she will remark that the outfit suits him.[10] When Link speaks to her, she will again tell him about Estan.[11] Maike calls Estan cute, and she encourages Link to say hello to her.[12]

When Link buys Maike's wares, she will attempt to thank him in a way that would be familiar to Hylians.[13][14] If Link speaks to her after buying all of her stock, Maike will thank him for shopping.[15] Like other proprietors of General Stores, Link can sell his own Items to Maike.[16][17][18] When Link does so, she will be appreciative of whatever she buys from him.[19][20][21] Afterwards, she invites him to come back in the future.[22]
