The Lizalfos Gear is a recurring archetype of Weapon in The Legend of Zelda series.[1]
Location and Uses[]
Breath of the Wild[]
Lizalfos Gear is a collection of Weapons wielded by Lizalfos. It is found in three tiers of increasing quality and durability.
Basic Lizalfos Gear is most commonly found in the possession of regular Lizalfos. It is the product of low-quality metalwork, which makes Weapons of this tier relatively fragile and weak.[2][3] The second tier of gear is typically wielded by Blue Lizalfos. It includes additional metal that gives it greater durability, and also possess greater attacking power.[4][5] The final tier of weaponry is used by wielded by Black Lizalfos, Silver Lizalfos and Golden Lizalfos, and is further strengthened and reinforced by metal enhancements.[6][7][8]
One-handed Weapons within this archetype are notable for their curved blades, which give them a Boomerang-like shape that allows them to return their owner when thrown.[9] Higher-tier variants of these weapons posses more forked blades, but still return when thrown.[4][6] Lizalfos spears are instead distinguished by blades lined with hooks and barbed edges, designed to tear and rip at foes.[2][7][10] They are sometimes used for fishing in addition to combat.[10] Lizalfos Bows are fashioned from the flexible branches of a type of waterside Tree, increasing the spring of the Weapon and thus the strength with which it projects Arrows.[11] The grip of basic Bows is reinforced with the bones of large Fish; higher tiers are instead metal, which covers most of the highest-quality Bows used by skilled Lizalfos marksmen.[11][12][13]
As Lizalfos Gear is formed from metal, all Weapons within this archetype sink in Water, do not burn when exposed to Fire or a Scorching Climate, attract Lightning during Thunderstorms, conduct Electricity, and can be manipulated through Magnesis. The exception to this are the Lizal Bow and the Strengthened Lizal Bow, which are constructed primarily of wood. As a result of this, they will float in Water, do not attract Lightning, cannot conduct Electricity, are capable of burning, and are not magnetic.
