"Leviathan Bones" is a Side Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]

Overview[]

At Serenne Stable, Link can find Akrah, Garshon, and Onya discussing the remains of the Leviathans.[2][3][4] Onya theorizes that they went extinct because of an ice age,[5] Akrah believes they went extinct because of a volcanic eruption,[6] and Garshon thinks the extinction occurred due to a drought.[7] When the three of them notice Link listening, Akrah explains that they are scientists trying to decipher the reason the Leviathans went extinct.[8]

Unfortunately, the three have been unable to locate any Leviathan Bones, which means their claims have no evidence.[9] They do have an idea of where the remains can be found: the Eldin Mountains, Hebra, and Gerudo.[10] Since Link looks like an adventurer,[11] Akrah asks him to find the Leviathan Bones and bring them a Picture of them.[12] Specifically, he wants to see the heads of the skeletons,[13] and he promises Link 300 Rupees if he can do this for him.[14] When Link accepts, the Side Quest begins.

The Eldin Great Skeleton is located along the northern edge of Eldin. The Hebra Great Skeleton is found inside a cave under the Hebra North Summit. Finally, the Gerudo Great Skeleton is located in the southwest of the Gerudo Desert, near Dragon's Exile. Link must take a Picture of each of them for the Side Quest.

Link can show his Pictures to their corresponding researchers. Akrah wants to see the Eldin Great Skeleton,[15] Garshon wants to see the Gerudo Great Skeleton,[16] and Onya wants to see the Hebra Great Skeleton.[17] Each of them praise Link's Pictures and claim they will help with proving their theories.[18][19][20] They also ask Link to help the other scientists.[21][22][23]

Once all three Pictures have been shown, Akrah will thank Link and reward him with a Gold Rupee.[24] The Side Quest will end here, and the three brothers continue their debates.[25][26]

Complete You took pictures of the leviathan bones in Eldin, Hebra, and Gerudo. As thanks for advancing the cause of paleontology, Akrah gave you 300 rupees.
