Hoz is a recurring character in the The Legend of Zelda series. He first appears in Breath of the Wild and returns in Tears of the Kingdom.

Breath of the Wild[]
In Breath of the Wild, Hoz is a soldier who works to fend off monsters from East Akkala Stable in the Akkala Highlands.[2] He carries a Soldier's Spear and wears a Soldier's Helm. He patrols the Stable throughout the day and night.[3] If it begins to rain, he will flee inside.[4][5]
If Link agrees that it has become dangerous in the area, Hoz shares a rumor he has heard of a suspicious individual known as Kilton.[6] The rumors say that he runs a shop called Fang and Bone, which he operates during the night.[7] Kilton's behavior has reportedly been making people uncomfortable.[8]
Hoz asks Link if he knows Kilton.[9] If Link replies that he does not, Hoz will be disappointed.[10] Alternatively, if Link says that he does, Hoz is shocked that he is aware of him.[11] Despite Link's answer, Hoz asks him for a detailed description of any suspicious people that he encounters, especially if he meets Kilton.[12] This begins the Side Quest "A Shady Customer."
Once Link has taken a Picture of Kilton, he can return to the East Akkala Stable to show it to Hoz.[13] Though he thinks the Picture is strange,[14] Hoz believes it will help him track Kilton down.[15] As a reward, he gives Link a Silver Rupee. He bids Link farewell so that he can return to his mission.[16]
After completing the Side Quest, Link can continue to speak to Kilton. Now that he has seen Kilton, he wonders what he sells at the Fang and Bone.[17] He believes it could be fangs, bones, or "evil things", but thinking about it creeps him out.[18]
Hoz is one of several characters who will hit Link back if he attacks them with a Weapon.[19][20][21] These attacks deal no damage.
Tears of the Kingdom[]
In Tears of the Kingdom, he works as the captain of Monster Control Crew Squad 1. His bosses are head of the Monster Control Crew Gralens and strategist Atmus. He wears a Soldier's Helm and wields the flag of the Monster Control Crew. Riding his horse, he commands his squad. If Link helps him and his squad fight monsters in Hyrule Field, he explains how having him will greatly improve morale. After securing victory in Hyrule Field, he thanks Link for helping and moves onto Fort Hateno in Necluda. After securing victory there, he again thanks Link for participating. After a blood moon, he goes back to Hyrule Field and then Fort Hateno to defeat the monsters again. Together with Toren of Squad 2 and Flaxel of Squad 3, they command small groups of militia troops of varying training and professionalism to defeat monsters and make Hyrule at least a bit safer.
