"His name is Horwell. This instructor at the Knight Academy is recognized as an expert on animals of every shape and size."

Horwell is a character from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. He is an instructor under the employ of the Knight Academy, and is in charge of the Wing Ceremony. He is also taking care of Headmaster Gaepora's pet Remlit, Mia, and is described as somewhat of an expert on all manner of animals.

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

At the beginning of the game, Mia runs away from Horwell and climbs up to the rooftop of the Knight Academy. He asks Link to use his skills to get her down, which Link successfully does. Horwell is forced to let Mia out at night, as all Remlits become dangerous monsters when the sun goes down. Despite this, he grows very attached to Mia and plans on getting a Remlit of his own once Gaepora asks him to give her back.

When Link transforms Batreaux into a human after gathering 80 Gratitude Crystals, Horwell can be found wandering Skyloft at night together with Mia, as she no longer transforms into a vicious monster at night.

Spoiler warning: Spoilers end here.

As many residents of Skyloft seem to be named after birds, Horwell may be named after a hornbill, but is more likely named after a horned owl to coincide with his owl-ish peers, Gaepora (named after Kaepora Gaebora, the owl from Ocarina of Time) and Owlan.
