The Hidden Village,(TP)[1][name reference needed] also known as the Bygone Village,(TP)[2] is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series. It is located in the Eldin Province, north of the Bridge of Eldin.[3]
Features and Overview[]
Twilight Princess[]
Prior to the events in Twilight Princess, the Hidden Village served as the secret home to the Sheikah tribe; however, due to the prolonged wars, the tribe dwindled and the town fell into decline, becoming infested with Bulblins and leaving only one resident, Impaz.[4][5][6]
Early in Link's quest, entry into the Hidden Village is blocked off due to a rockslide that happened long ago.[7] After Link shows the Wooden Statue to Ilia while Retrieving her Memory, she remembers that someone saved her from monsters and is still in danger. Gor Coron recalls where he has seen the Wooden Statue before, which leads Link to the Hidden Village.[4] Link goes there to rescue the one who helped Ilia with the aid of Darbus, who breaks through the rocks to clear Link's path ahead. When Link first visits the town, it is infested by many Bulblins, all of which he must slay in order to rescue Ilia's helper.[8] The only other resident of the village, Impaz, comes out of her home after Link slays every single one of the beasts. Thanking the young hero for his help in defeating the Bulblins, she gives Link Ilia's Charm, an item Ilia gave to Impaz before escaping the Hidden Village.[9]
Shortly after Ilia recovers her memory with the aid of the Ilia's Charm, later revealed to be the Horse Call made for Link, Link returns to the Hidden Village and shows the Dominion Rod to Impaz. Impaz recognizes the Dominion Rod upon seeing it and gives Link the Ancient Sky Book, which is only to be carried by the messenger to the heavens.[10] It is with the help of this book that Link eventually reaches the City in the Sky.
Most of the buildings in the Hidden Village were abandoned and ruined by the Bulblins, and as such, only Impaz's house is still fit for residence. Impaz's house is also home to several Cats that she takes care of. In the backyard of one of the abandoned buildings, Link can find a Howling Stone as well as a Cucco who asks Wolf Link, to play Cat Hunt with the Cats in exchange for a Piece of Heart. The various stray felines wandering the Hidden Village will play the mini-game with Wolf Link where he has to talk to each individual Cat at least once.
Other Appearances[]
Link's Crossbow Training[]
In Link's Crossbow Training, the Hidden Village appears in Level 5 as a Ranger-type Stage. Link freely moves through the Hidden Village to kill the 25 Bulblins there. Most of the Bulblins are found in clusters and shoot flaming Arrows as soon as they spot Link. Several Explosive Barrel can be found, which when hit, destroy everything within their vicinity. Slaying all 25 Bulblins will add a multiplier of the remaining time to the score.
Oracle of Ages (Himekawa)[]
In the Oracle of Ages manga by Akira Himekawa, a Hidden Village is found in Labrynna.[11] It is not the same Hidden Village featured in Twilight Princess.
When the sorceress Veran possesses the Oracle of Ages Nayru, she travels to the past and uses her host to convince Queen Ambi to construct a Black Tower.[12][13] Those in the castle who grow suspicious of Nayru are fired at her suggestion.[14] However, before they can be executed, Sir Raven brings them to the Hidden Village.[15] The other inhabitants are volunteers from Lynna.[16] Located behind a graveyard of the supposedly dead,[17] the Hidden Village rests inside of a forest.[18] The village is lead by an elder and a group of farmers.[19][20] Farming is the main activity in the village, with Toto Potatoes as the main crop.[21]
Veran discovers the Hidden Village after following Sir Raven.[22] She sends the monster Ramrock to crush the village.[23] After Link defeats the monster, Queen Ambi's army arrives and lays siege to the Hidden Village. Sir Raven and the armed farmers almost win the battle until the villagers are threatened to be shot by archers.[24] Since Sir Raven is captured and their settlement is destroyed, the remaining villagers who are not enslaved hide in a cave.[25]
The former inhabitants of the Hidden Village help in the destruction of Ganon.[26] The Hidden Village's elder says they will build a great city just as the built a village.[27]
