Hagie is a character in Breath of the Wild.[3]
Biography[]
Breath of the Wild[]
Hagie is a Hylian who moves to Tarrey Town with his family after the completion of the "From the Ground Up" Side Quest. During the day, he sits at the edge of town, overlooking Lake Akkala and the Torin Wetland.
When Link first speaks to him, Hagie asks what his deal is.[4] If Link responds that he is a traveler, Hagie remarks that he does not normally speak with "commoners" and that Link is an exception.[5] Based on his clothing, Hagie guesses that Link is in need of money.[6] If Link says he does not need Rupees, Hagie grunts and the conversation ends.[7] However, if Link says that he is, Hagie appreciates his honesty.[8]
Immediately, Hagie offers Link a down payment of 100 Rupees.[9] When Link is confused by this, Hagie forces him to take the money.[10] By taking the money, Link accepts Hagie's request.[11] Hagie reveals that there are two Guardian Stalkers in the Torin Wetland.[12] Hagie asks Link to defeat both of them,[13][14] which begins the "Hobbies of the Rich" Side Quest.
If Link asks him who he is, Hagie mutters to himself that he must engage with the common folk to get things done.[15] He assumes that Link has heard of him before, saying that he got everything he wanted in life.[16] His days have felt empty as of late, his only thrill coming from seeing people risk their lives.[17]
Once Link has defeated both Guardian Stalkers, he can return to Tarrey Town and talk to Hagie. He saw Link destroy both Guardians, and so delivers the rest of the reward.[18] When Link is upset to only receive a Red Rupee, worth 20 Rupees, Hagie acts pretentiously.[19] He insists that the concept of a down payment being less than a reward is one that comes from the "common folk".[20] With their business finished, Hagie tells Link to leave him alone.[21] This concludes the Side Quest.
Hagie also plays a small role in the Side Quest "A Parent's Love". During the night, Link can hear Hagie and Ruli discussing their daughter Hunnie.[22] Hagie looks back on their search for a cake that would please Hunnie, wondering how much money they have spent.[23] Ruli becomes angry at him, asking whether money or his daughter is more important to him.[24] When Ruli says she will sell her soul to a monster for a cake that could cure Hunnie,[25] Hagie calls her insane.[26]
After "Hobbies of the Rich" is complete, Hagie continues to look out on the Torin Wetland. He claims to be sunbathing with his family and tells Link to leave.[27] During the sunset, he notes that his soul feels cleansed because of its beauty.[28] At night, he wonders to himself whether his family needs to remain in Tarrey Town, as Hunnie's health has improved.[29]
Tears of the Kingdom[]
After the events of Breath of the Wild, Hagie was hired to work for Hudson Construction. He was put in charge of the Railcar leading from Tarrey Town to the Hudson Construction Site. While Hudson was busy preparing for his daughter's, Mattison, move to Gerudo Town, Hagie started charging people 20 Rupees to use the Railcar, despite the fact that Hudson allows everyone to use it for free. He also stole a large glowing rock from the construction site, thinking it was valuable. Hagie also starts the Shrine Quest "Rock for Sale", where he tries to sell the rock to Link for 100 Rupees, but Ruli would catch him selling the rock and forces him to sell the rock for 50 Rupees instead.
During the Side Quest "Mattison Independence", Mattison would try to use the Railcar to see Hudson at the Hudson Construction Site, but she couldn't use the Railcar since she couldn't pay Hagie 20 Rupees. Link would have to obscure Hagie sight to allow Mattison to sneak past him and use the Railcar.
After "Mattison Independence" is complete, Hudson would start focusing on work again, forcing Hagie to stop charging people 20 Rupees to use the Railcar. Hagie would also comment how Hudson would keep calling him "Hagieson", despite the fact that Hagie would constantly tell Hudson that his name is Hagie.
