Overview

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was debated over how it should be handled as the game was majorly unclear as to if it was Canon or not, and we have come to a conclusion. These guidelines will highlight how Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity should be added to articles and how each article should be structured in an organized fashion. If you are interested in helping with covering Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity content, we would love for you to join the Zelda Wiki Discord to collaborate with other editors to update the wiki. Thank you!

First, when linking to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the {{HWAoC}} template should be used. This is NOT the {{HW}} template. Because these are two separate games, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity gets its own template.

Canonicity

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is considered Non-Canon per the Canon guidelines because the order of events irreconcilably occur in a different order from what Nintendo has previously established as canon. Though many of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity's discrepancies take place after a point in which the Diminutive Guardian travels through time and could ostensibly represent a new branch in the timeline, the official and canonical order of events shown jointly through in-game text in Breath of the Wild and the supplementary book Creating a Champion indicates that the order of events before the Diminutive Guardian's involvement in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity are incompatible.

In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the Diminutive Guardian travels to a point in time around when Zelda is preparing to approach the prospective Champion to ask them to pilot the Divine Beasts. From that point onward, Link is appointed as Zelda's knight, the Champion are recruited, and the group led by Zelda searches for the Master Sword which is resting in the Korok Forest. In contrast, the canon order of events dictates that Link was already in the possession of the Master Sword for an unspecified number of years prior to the point when Princess Zelda was preparing to speak to the Champion.[1][2] This is further specified to take place before Princess Zelda and Purah ever excavated the Sheikah Slate. As research into the Sheikah Slate's properties was well underway by the beginning of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and the point in time which the Diminutive Guardian is known to have traveled to, it is not possible for the timeline to have already branched away from the canonical events of Breath of the Wild.

The discrepancies within Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity's story remain at conflict with the official order of events in the larger narrative of the timeline and it cannot potentially be considered to be compatible—and therefore reasonably canon or even ambiguously canon—unless Nintendo amends the timeline to specifically include or explain these discrepancies. In the event that Nintendo canonize Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity in a future timeline update, its canonicity status on this Wiki will be changed accordingly.

For instructions on how to format Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity in articles, please read over the Canon Guidelines.

Citations

When using citations from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the citations should be pulled word-for-word from the text, following the Reference Guidelines. When citing cutscenes, instead of citing the spoken words, the subtitles should be cited in case of minor differences.

Citing Colored Text

When the text in-game is colored, your citation should also include the colored words. This can be done by using the {{Color}} template. In the citation, the colored words should be surrounded by {{Color|NAME OF COLOR|TEXT}}. The names of the colors are as follows:

Color Name Result
HWAoC Blue #51b2df
HWAoC Red #d54a4f
HWAoC Yellow #f1d430

Images

As stated earlier, images from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity should be included in the ==Gallery== section. Basic guidelines for all of The Legend of Zelda series can be found in the File Guidelines. Standards for taking images from specifically Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity are shown below:

Screenshots

Screenshot Standards

When taking a screenshot in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, you should try to capture the entirety of the subject in the most amount of space possible. The closer to the subject you are, the better the image will turn out. This is because when the image is enlarged on the wiki, it won't become as grainy as it would be if it was a smaller image. The HUD should be removed as much as possible, as to not obscure the image. When taking a screenshot of something, pressing your character against the wall and turning around the camera will give you a good shot for the image. This is because the camera will become too close to the character and the character will become invisible, allowing for greater space to take images. When taking pictures with enemies in the shot, the Health gauges setting should be turned off in options.

Taking and Uploading Screenshots

For instructions on how to take screenshots, see the File Guidelines. Instructions on how to upload your image can also be found on that page.

After you've uploaded your image to your computer, you should crop the image to show just the subject. A good, free program for image editing you can use is GIMP. If you don't feel comfortable with editing the image yourself, feel free to ask a staff member on the Discord server and we will gladly help you.

Overview
The Overview section includes both the Combatants and the Collectibles sections. The first paragraph of the Overview section should consist of when the Scenario takes place in the events of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and where the Scenario takes place in location. Any other details regarding the Scenario that don't relate to the story should also be placed here.

The next paragraphs should consist of the entire storyline of the Scenario. The paragraph should start with what took place shortly before the Scenario and what events led to the battle, and then the events of the Scenario, and finally the events leading to the next Scenario. This will consist of multiple paragraphs, all split at different major points in the storyline.

The final paragraph should explain the Scenarios, Warriors, Items, etc. that unlock after completing this Scenario.

Combatants
The Combatants section is a subsection of the Overview section. It consists of a table listing the forces that fight during the Scenario, with one column for the Allied Forces and the other for the Dark Forces.

Collectibles
The Collectibles section is another subsection of the Overview section. It consists of another table that lists all of the collectibles, like Korok Seeds, that can be found in the Scenario.

  2. "The princess of Hyrule paid a special visit to the domain. She asked me if I would agree to pilot a Divine Beast." — Mipha's Diary (Breath of the Wild)
