- Not to be confused with Autojump.
Template:Ability Jumping is a recurring ability in Template:LZS. It appears predominately in 2D Zelda games, often as an effect of the Roc's Feather or Roc's Cape. In 3D titles, manual jumping has only appeared in Breath of the Wild, though Autojumping has been present since Ocarina of Time.
Overview
The Adventure of Link
Due to the change from a top-down perspective inThe Legend of Zelda to a side-scrolling perspective in The Adventure of Link, the jump ability was introduced, alongside a dedicated jump button. Link can jump at any time the jump button is pressed, as long as he is standing on solid ground. The jump can be used to cross pits, reach higher places, and avoid enemies.
After learning the Down Thrust and Up Thrust, Link can execute these aerial attacks by holding down while in the air for the former, and holding up and pressing the jump button for the latter.
The Jump spell makes Link jump twice as high as before, allowing access to areas that would be otherwise unreachable.[1] The magic also increases the maximum horizontal distance of Link's jumps, allowing easier access over large pits.
Breath of the Wild
Being absent in every game since The Adventure of Link, the ability to manually jump returns in Breath of the Wild. In addition to jumping while on the run, Link can also jump while clinging to a wall, gaining elevation at the cost of some of his Stamina Wheel; or, if the player simultaneously pushes the Control Stick away from the wall, Link will leap off the wall entirely. Link can also jump while Shield Surfing.
While Targeting, pressing the jump button will cause Link to do a sidehop (if moving left or right) or a backflip (if moving backwards). If this is done within close proximity to an enemy at the moment they intiate a melee attack, Link will perform a Perfect Dodge. Other moves that Link can transition into from a jump include the Jump Attack, Shield Surf, and Paraglide.
