The Goron Tunic,[1] also known as the Heat-Resistant Tunic,[2] is a recurring Item in The Legend of Zelda series. It is a red tunic that can only be worn when Link is as an adult, similar to the Zora Tunic. It is made from Dodongo scales and Bomb Flower fibers, though it looks identical to his standard tunic aside from a red color.[3]
Location and Uses[]
Ocarina of Time[]
Link wearing the Goron Tunic in Ocarina of Time
The Goron Tunic is able to protect its wearer from extreme heat. It is essential when exploring places such as the Death Mountain Crater and the Fire Temple. While wearing it, Link will no longer burn from fire-based traps and attacks, and will be able to travel on tiles of lava while having increased resistance to damage, allowing him to take certain shortcuts safely but care still should be taken. He will also gain special resistance from floor spikes and poison water seen in the Shadow Temple. Like the Hylian Shield, the tunic can be stolen and eaten by a Like Like if the Hero of Time is still wearing it when the enemy spits him out.
It can first be received as a gift from Darunia's son after stopping him from rolling around Goron City.[2] If the Goron Tunic is ever lost due to being eaten by a Like Like, replacement tunics can be bought in the Goron Shop for an expensive 200 Rupees each, requiring the Adult Wallet to purchase.
Note that if the Fire Temple is completed before obtaining the Goron Tunic from Darunia's son, he will no longer gift Link a tunic nor open the door to the Goron Shop, making the Goron Tunic impossible to obtain on that save file. Even if Link enters the shop as a child, he will still be unable to be purchase the tunic as the Goron shopkeeper will refuse to sell the tunic to a child.
Other Appearances[]
Super Smash Bros.[]
Link's red costume in this game is based on the Goron Tunic.
Super Smash Bros. Melee[]
Link's red color palette based on the Goron Tunic returns from Super Smash Bros.. Young Link has a red costume that is also based on the Goron Tunic, even though he was never able to wear it in his original games.
SoulCalibur II[]
The Goron Tunic is an alternate costume for Link in this game.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]
Although Link in Super Smash Bros. Brawl uses his design from Twilight Princess, his red color palette is still based on the Goron Tunic from Ocarina of Time.
Hyrule Warriors[]
The Goron Tunic appears as an unlockable costume in Hyrule Warriors.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[]
Link's red palette swap in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, like in Super Smash Bros., is again slightly based on the Goron Tunic.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
Because Link in this game wears the Champion's Tunic, his red costume isn't based on the Goron Tunic. However, Young Link returns with his original red palette swap, based on the tunic.
Trivia[]
- Although the Goron Tunic is known to have resistance damage in Ocarina of Time, it serves no such purpose in other appearances such as the Super Smash Bros. series, Soul Calibur II, or even Hyrule Warriors.
- The Goron Tunic is similar to the tunics obtained from the Red Ring and Red Mail from The Legend of Zelda and A Link to the Past, respectively, although it does not directly grant Link increased defense unlike its NES and Super NES counterparts.
