The Golden Gauntlets are a recurring item in The Legend of Zelda series.[1] It is the upgrade of the Silver Gauntlets.

Location and Uses[]

Ocarina of Time[]

The Golden Gauntlets are located in the Shadow Barrier room of Ganon's Castle. They replace the Silver Gauntlets when obtained. This handgear is considerably stronger,[2] as when worn, Link gains incredible super strength comparable to that of Ganondorf using the Triforce of Power, able to lift things that were previously impossible, such as giant, black, extremely heavy granite pillars, and throw them great distances. Despite this, however, he still cannot move when carrying gray boulders like with the Silver variant. One of these pillars obstructs the door to the Light Barrier room, forcing Link to use them to clear the path. They are also required in the Fire Barrier room to lift and throw another pillar to obtain two Silver Rupees.

A third pillar appears outside of Ganon's Castle, in the region formerly housing the Great Fairy of Magic on the path to Hyrule Castle. When removed, the entrance to a Great Fairy's Fountain will be revealed, housing the Great Fairy of Courage. When summoned, she provides him with Defensive Power,[3] halving all damage taken.[4]

Other Appearances[]

Hyrule Warriors[]

Trivia[]

  • The Golden Gauntlets are based on the Titan's Mitt from A Link to the Past.
  • For unknown reasons, in both Ocarina of Time and its remake, during the ending cutscene of when Link and Princess Zelda say their goodbyes after defeating Ganon, the Golden Gauntlets were removed from the former's hands.
