Not to be confused with Founding the Nation of Hyrule.

The Founding of the Kingdom of Hyrule is an event in The Legend of Zelda series.[1]

Long after both Skyward Sword and the Era of Chaos, the Kingdom of Hyrule is founded by the descendants of Zelda from Skyward Sword.[2] The Oocca also participated in Hyrule's founding.[3] Various Hyrule Castles were built and destroyed, including Hyrule Castle in Ocarina of Time which was destroyed to make way for Ganon's Tower which was also subsequently destroyed, as well as Hyrule Castle in Twilight Princess which was damaged by Ganondorf.

The founders of Hyrule in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were Queen Sonia and King Rauru,[4] though it is unclear which iteration of Hyrule this depicts.[5] It is possible that Hyrule may have been destroyed once before the founding depicted in the game.[6] The kingdom was established at the Great Plateau,[7] chosen because it was the location of the sacred Temple of Time.[2] Following the imprisoning of Ganondorf underground, Hyrule Castle was built atop the Demon King to keep him sealed.[8][9] Hyrule Castle remained intact and undestroyed for ages, until it was damaged for the first time during the Great Calamity 100 years prior to Breath of the Wild, resulting in Ganondorf's power manifesting underground and ultimately reviving.[8][9]

  3. "The common opinion is that Hyrule was created by the Hylia people, the race closest to the gods, but...truth be told, there's also a theory saying that in ancient times, there was a race even closer to the gods than the Hylia people, and THEY created it. And they, simultaneously with the birth of the Hylia people, created a new capital, a capital that floated in the heavens." — Shad (Twilight Princess, canonical Japanese text)

"あくまで可能性として話すとすれば、ハイラル建国の話があってもその前に一度滅んだ歴史がある可能性もあります。[If I'm just talking about this as a possibility, even if there is a story about the founding of Hyrule, there is a possibility that there is a history where Hyrule was destroyed once before that.]" — Hidemaro Fujibayashi, An interview with the developer of "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" that can still be talked about. 9. 9.0 9.1 "Deep beneath this land, our mighty first ruler imprisoned the Demon King. To ensure the king's magic would hold, we erected a castle here to protect this sacred site. Without the castle in place, the site may be disturbed, allowing the Demon King's hatred and rage to be revived. The preservation of this castle is therfore tied to the prosperity of the kingdom." — Gloom's Approach (Tears of the Kingdom)
