[[File:File:Wooden Shield.png.png|20x20px]] [[|]] The Wooden Shield is a generally durable shield that is usually obtained in the beginning of several Legend of Zelda games. The shield is unable to protect against certain attacks, like fireballs and some magical attacks, and may even be burnt by fire, just like the Deku Shield. The wooden shield is usually superseded by a stronger, metallic version in order to protect against all types of attack.
Appearances
The Legend of Zelda
The Wooden Shield is Link's starting shield in The Legend of Zelda. It is capable of blocking the basic attacks, such as rocks fired from Octoroks or arrows shot by Moblins. Link can upgrade his shield by buying a Magical Shield from the various shops around Hyrule; however, if a Like Like attacks Link, he will lose the Magical Shield and revert back to using the Wooden Shield. This shield, however, cannot be swallowed by Like Likes.
Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons
The Wooden Shield is the L-1 Shield in the Oracle Series. It can be upgraded to the L-2 Iron Shield and later the L-3 Mirror Shield through a Link Password.
Twilight Princess
The Wooden Shield is a replacement shield in Twilight Princess, available for purchase at the Malo Mart in Kakariko Village in the event that Link's original Ordon Shield gets burnt up. The Ordon Shield is the default wooden shield available in the game; it has a smaller, more circular appearance, but is used in exactly the same fashion and shields well against similar attacks.
Phantom Hourglass
The Wooden Shield also appears in Phantom Hourglass, looking much like the Hero's Shield from The Wind Waker, exceptionally bearing a lobster symbol in place of the Hylian Crest, though the Triforce symbol is still evident. This same shield appears in Spirit Tracks, known as the Shield of Antiquity. The only difference between the Shield of Antiquity and the Wooden Shield from Phantom Hourglass is that it cannot be swallowed by Like Likes.
Skyward Sword
The Wooden Shield appears once more in Skyward Sword, alongside the Iron Shield, the Sacred Shield, and the Hylian Shield. The symbol on the shield resembles a footprint, possibly that of a Loftwing. The Wooden Shield can be obtained from Owlan by talking to him after obtaining the Goddess Sword or it can be purchased from the Gear Shop at the Bazaar for 50 Rupees. It is the weakest of all the shields in Skyward Sword. This shield is weak to fire and will completely burn up if Link falls into lava, but it is immune to electric attacks. The shield's special property is that it will not only block enemy arrows, but also enable Link to collect any of them that are lodged into it.
