A Link to the Past

Fortune Teller (A Link to the Past)

The Fortune Teller is a mysterious character draped in purple robes, who will foretell Link's fortune for a small sum of Rupees. Once paid, the Fortune Teller uses a crystal ball to foretell Link's future; after uttering the stereotypical magical words "abracadabra alakazam" or "hocus pocus", the Fortune Teller provides Link with a clue about how to proceed in his adventure. Afterwards, Link's health is also restored.

In both the Light and Dark Worlds, Fortune Tellers may be found to the north of Lake Hylia, and south of the Lost Woods. Interestingly, in the Dark World, Fortune Tellers are noticeably larger, possibly a manifestation of the corrupting influence of the Dark World, as displayed in other characters such as the Great Fairy.

Like the Old Man and other characters from The Legend of Zelda, it is not known whether the various Fortune Tellers encountered in the Light and Dark Worlds are one and the same, or different characters altogether.

A Link Between Worlds

In A Link Between Worlds the Fortune Teller can be found in a large purple tent just north of Kakariko Village where he will give Link the Hint Glasses, with which he can obtain hints in exchange for play coins. He will also tell Links fortune.

According to Rumor Guy the Witch used to have an unrequited crush on him, brewing him a potion when he became Ill and dropping it off in his mailbox, when she next visited him he told her fortune where he said he saw "a man that you fancy" but he was unable to make out who it was. He then went on to say that "he does not return your affections" and that there was "no future" for the two of them.
