Biography
Ocarina of Time
In Ocarina of Time, the Fishing Hole Man owns a Fishing Pond in Lake Hylia. The Fishing Hole Man allows Link to lure fish for an unlimited time at a cost of 20 Rupees.[3] He considers himself an expert at catching fish, going as far as referring to himself as an old pro.[4] However, he refuses to reveal any fishing secrets to Link, since he considers them to be company secrets. He has a tendency to continuously end his sentences with "I'm serious!,"[5][6][7] and has a neverending itch in his armpit.
When Link goes back to the Fishing Pond as an adult, the Fishing Hole Man will now be wearing a hat to try and cover his bald spot.[8] Moreover, he mentions that he is almost out of business since Link, his only customer, was gone for seven years.[9] If Link breaks the rules and casts the Fishing Rod at the Fishing Hole Man, he can grab his hat to confirm the fact that he has started to go bald.[10] Link can then choose to give him back his hat or throw it into the pond. If Link chooses the latter, the hat can be lost forever, so Link will have to pay a 50 Rupee fine.[11]
The Fishing Hole Man makes a small cameo in Hena's Fishing Hole in Twilight Princess, where a picture of him holding a Hyrule Loach appears.[12] Hena also believes that she is his descendant, sharing both his passion for fishing and his awkward itch.[13][14]
Majora's Mask 3D
The Fishing Hole Man in Majora's Mask 3D
In Majora's Mask 3D, there are two Fishing Holes, each run by a Fishing Hole Man. Link can fish at either hole for a 50 Rupee fee,[15] or for free by using a Fishing Hole Pass.[16]
The Swamp Fishing Hole is located next to the Swamp Shooting Gallery. The Ocean Fishing Hole is located in the Zora Cape.
The Fishing Hole Men will share secrets about fishing with Link if they are talked to.[17][18] They will also mention that certain fish can be caught on that day.[19]
Just as in Ocarina of Time, the Fishing Hole Men's headgear can be hooked with the Fishing Rod. If this is done to the Swamp Fishing Hole Man, it is revealed he is wearing a toupee, and Link must give him every Rupee currently in his wallet.[20][21] If he has no Rupees, the Swamp Fishing Hole Man will grudgingly forgive the offense.[22] The Fishing Hole Man's hat can also be caught, though he does not demand payment for the loss. This may be because, unlike his swamp counterpart, he is not bald.[23]
The Swamp Fishing Hole Man will sometimes mention his younger brother, the Fishing Hole Man, and vise versa.[24][25]
The Fishing Hole Men also bear a great resemblance to the Man from Trading Post and the Man from Curiosity Shop. When Link mentions this, however, the Fishing Hole Men will deny it, saying they have no idea who Link is talking about.[26]
