Yunobo is a character in Breath of the Wild[6] and Tears of the Kingdom.
Yunobo is the grandson of Daruk, one of the Champions of Hyrule the century before, and inherited his protective ability, which was used to repel the Divine Beast Vah Rudania.
In Tears of the Kingdom, Yunobo now works as an entrepreneur, serving as president of YunoboCo, a mining company. It is later shown that he is the descendant of one of the Six Sages - The Sage of Fire. Later in the game, Yunobo accepts to wield his ancestor's Secret Stone, awakening as the new Sage of Fire.
Personality[]
Yunobo is a shy, timid and kind Goron who has some insecurities about the person he is and was, and is almost nothing like his ancestor, Daruk, who was as brave as Gorons come. Despite his cowardice, he is a kind Goron who wants to help in anyway he can. But he can be brave when he needs to be; in fact, when Link showed up to calm Rudania, he also taught him to be a bit braver. Since then, he has become sufficiently confident in himself to open up his own mining business, called YunoboCo.
His personality changes for the worse soon after, due to the mask given to him by "Zelda", becoming rude, arrogant, condescending to others, and greedy. Fortunately, once Link destroys the mask, his true nature returns.
Abilities[]
As a Goron he is strong enough to lift a boulder and punch through it. Like his ancestor, Daruk, he can use Daruk's protection for both defensive and offensive properties. When he got older, he can use his ancestors weapon as well. Like any other goron, he can roll in a ball and can use this for both maneuverability and attacks, but unlike the other gorons, he can infuse fire into his rolling ability, along with his weapon, causing an explosion that can break down marbled rock roast, and cracked rock walls, when he got his ancestors secret stone, his fire powers amplified greatly.
Biography[]
Breath of the Wild[]
Yunobo is a young Goron who lives in Goron City in the Eldin Region. He is a descendant of the Goron Champion, Daruk. Being a descendant, he is able to use Daruk's Protection to defend himself from attacks.[7] Yunobo helps as Bludo's assistant; when the Divine Beast Vah Rudania arrives, the pair cooperate in using the Cannons stationed around Death Mountain to drive away Vah Rudania. Using Daruk's Protection, Yunobo acts as the cannonball while Bludo operates the Cannons.[8][9] However, despite their repeated efforts, Vah Rudania always returns.[10]
When Link arrives in Goron City and meets with Bludo, he learns that Yunobo had left for the Abandoned North Mine to find painkillers for Bludo's hurting back, so they may again use the Cannons to drive away Vah Rudania. However, Yunobo has failed to return.[11] When Link arrives there, he finds that Yunobo is trapped in the Mine's Vault by a rock slide.[12] Link frees Yunobo by using one of the nearby Cannons to blast away the rocks. Yunobo at first thinks that Link is a monster and panics, but soon calms down and thanks the hero for rescuing him. He is surprised to learn that Link was able to operate Bludo's Cannons.[13]
After Yunobo delivers Bludo his painkillers, he runs on ahead to the Bridge of Eldin to meet up with Bludo there. However, Bludo's back is still too sore and he is forced to cancel their plans. Link meets up with Yunobo to tell him the news, but finds that he is being attacked by a pair of Black Moblins. Link saves Yunobo again, who thanks him, but is discouraged about the cancellation.[14] He is then surprised when Link tells him that he wants to board Vah Rudania.[15] Although Yunobo is skeptic at first, he remembers that Link is able to operate the Cannons, and realizes they can work together to weaken Vah Rudania so Link can board it.[8] Together they lower the Bridge of Eldin by working in tandem, with Yunobo acting as the cannonball while Link fires the Cannon. As they approach Death Mountain, Vah Rudania deploys Sentries to hinder their progress, which will cause Magma Bombs to rain should either one of them be caught.[16] Link and Yunobo devise a plan to sneak by them, by having Link whistle whenever Yunobo should stop and go.[17] Together they scale the mountain, using each of its Cannons to weaken Vah Rudania. After detonating the last Cannon, the Divine Beast falls into Death Mountain's crater. Yunobo encourages Link to board the Divine Beast, while he stays behind and waits at the crater's edge.[18]
After Link defeats Fireblight Ganon and returns control of Vah Rudania to Daruk, the Goron Champion notices Yunobo staring at him below. Yunobo recognizes him as Daruk's spirit and begins waving at him.
When Link returns to Goron City, he meets Yunobo there who thanks him, saying that he feels a lot braver now.[19] He then remembers that Bludo had something to show him, and leads the way to him. Bludo also thanks Link and comments that Yunobo is a lot more responsible now.[20]
From there on, Yunobo can be found around Goron City or in his house. In the mornings, he walks to his "secret hideout", a small bridge overlooking the City.[21]
Tears of the Kingdom[]
At some point before the Upheaval, Yunobo created YunoboCo alongside the young Goron entrepreneurs Slergo and Offrak, a mining company dedicated to keeping Goron City afloat after Death Mountain became dormant. When the Upheaval occured, he encountered "Zelda", who gave him a mask which radically altered his personality, and discovered Marbled Rock Roast, an extremely delicious variant. However, the Gloom-tainted Rock Roast made most of the other Gorons addicted, massively slowing productivity as they spent all their time gorging on it and scamming travelers for money to buy more. However, as the children and elder Gorons aren't able to digest the Marbled Rock Roast, they remained unaffected, albeit unwilling or unable to try to talk any sense into Yunobo.
Link eventually arrives in Goron City, learning about the situation from Bludo, Slergo, and Offrak. Yunobo interrupts their conversation to voice his belief that the Marbled Rock Roast isn't a problem, before leading Slergo and Offrak back to YunoboCo HQ. Link visits YunoboCo HQ to try to talk Yunobo out of it, nearly getting through before "Zelda" uses his mask to force him to attack Link. Fortunately, Link is able to destroy the mask, bringing Yunobo back to his senses. The two of them attempt to catch up with "Zelda" after she flees the situation, and eventually finds her walking into Death Mountain. It is then when Moragia appears out of the mountain and attacks them.
Once the beast is slain, Yunobo and Link follow "Zelda" into Death Mountain. A telepathic voice guides them toward the ruins of Gorondia nearby, where they witness her being enveloped in the ceiling by large, tainted rocks. Unlocking the gate into the arena where they last saw her, Yunobo attempts to free her, only for the Marbled Gohma to appear instead and attack them.
Eventually triumphing, Yunobo and Link stumble upon the secret stone of the Sage of Fire, the ancestor of Daruk and Yunobo. He explains the story of the Imprisoning War, and that the Sage of Time warned them of the return of Ganondorf. Having promised that the Sage of Fire would reawaken when the day comes, Yunobo's ancestor implores his little rock to take up his stone and finish what he started. Yunobo questions if he can live up to such a lofty role, but realizing how he'd be letting everyone else down by refusing to try, he accepts the stone, which becomes part of a belt, and gives his vow and his avatar to Link.
With the Marbled Gohma defeated, the tainted Rock Roast disappears entirely, returning all of the affected Gorons to their senses. Bludo chews into Yunobo when he and Link return to Goron City. Yunobo laments his recklessness that led to what had happened, but Slergo and Offrak forgive him, understanding that he was not himself when he had introduced the Marbled Rock Roast.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity[]
In the Water and Fire Scenario, Yunobo comes from the future, where Breath of the Wild takes place and uses Daruk's Protection and saves the struggling Daruk from being defeated by Fireblight Ganon with its flaming rock at the last minute, much to Daruk's surprise to see another Goron have the same power as him.[22] Yunobo attempts to explain himself before blocking Fireblight's attack again and assuring him that he's there for him.[23] As Fireblight starts gaining power over them once more, Yunobo starts trembling before Daruk returns the favor and tells him to quell his fear[24] which Yunobo remembered why he came here[25] which Daruk praises him.[26] Yunobo's support to Daruk had brought enough time for Link to get to Divine Beast Vah Rudania to defeat Fireblight Ganon.[27] After the battle, Daruk takes the time to thank Link for coming to his aid,[28] and Yunobo for saving his life.[29] Sidon then explains that he came from the future,[30] though Daruk laughs it off[31] before sobering up and asks Princess Zelda about the events at Hyrule Castle.[32] After that, Daruk takes Yunobo on Rudania to help defend eastern Hyrule from the Guardians. Yunobo gushes at Daruk's prowess and addressed him as the Great Daruk[33] and a miffed Daruk tells Yunobo to stop it.[34] Yunobo sheepishly admits that he won't promise anything about that[35] and Daruk laughs once more before turning his focus on the mission.[36] Yunobo and Daruk work together with Rudania to defend the Allied Stronghold, take out bridges to prevent reinforcements of corrupted Guardians from crossing over, and destroying the enemy headquarters.
In the Guardian of Remembrance DLC, EX Battle for Kakariko Village Scenario, Yunobo joins Daruk in protecting Kakariko Village from Calamity Ganon's monsters as well as the Yiga Clan Footsoldiers led by Sooga. When it was over, a crowd of Sheikah villagers cheer for their victory. Yunobo caught Daruk glancing at him and starts to panic, refusing to take credit for the accomplishment.[37] to Daruk's concern.[38] Yunobo goes on to explain that he used to be a coward who was scared of everything until he met a friend who fought with him and taught him to be braver, and despite this, Yunobo still isn't proud of the Goron he used to be,[39] until Daruk took his arm and raised it and the crowd cheers for them once more. Daruk expresses pride in Yunobo being his descendant and calls him the Champion of the Future,[40] Yunobo doesn't know what to say,[41] though Daruk tells him that he also owes that friend his gratitude for helping him get this far in his development.[42] Yunobo feels better about it.[43]
In the Relentless as a Waterfall Scenario, Yunobo and Daruk help Sidon and Mipha when Vah Ruta is starting to lose steam and Mipha is busy healing the wounds of the soldiers. With Yunobo and Daruk's help, the party managed to hold back the line of foes until they were able to fire the cannons to destroy the bridge just as the Malice Guardians cross it, making them fall and they managed to destroy them.
In the All Hyrule United Scenario, Purah managed to get the Sheikah Towers working once more and supercharged it to assemble the soldiers of all races, the Champions, their Divine Beasts, and the recently reformed Yiga Clan. Daruk is ready to take the battle to Ganon[44] and a more confident Yunobo agreeing strongly[45] With her surviving father's blessing, Princess Zelda takes command of the united army and gives a speech before charging into the outposts and taking down monsters that hold up Ganon's barrier so the Champions can open fire. Despite the power of the Blood Moon reviving the monsters and holding back the Hyrulean Army, they managed to push through to Hyrule Castle.
In The Future of Hyrule Scenario, Yunobo follows Princess Zelda and the ground forces as they arrive at Hyrule Castle to take the fight to Astor and Harbinger Ganon. Despite putting up much of a fight, Astor and Harbinger were defeated and the former loses all composure and orders the latter to destroy the warriors, but he is consumed by Ganon's Malice and some of it attaches to Terrako, who unwillingly attacks Link and the princess. After it was serioously damaged, Yunobo and the other warriors share a moment of silence as an angry Princess Zelda vowed to bring Calamity Ganon down as they make their way to the sanctum where the monster awaited them. However, Ganon proved to be too strong for them and was immune to all attacks as a result of its successful reincarnation, so Zelda tries desperately to seal it. Her power brings Terrako back up and it rushes upstairs to sacrifice itself to penetrate Ganon's invincibility and the heroes can now hurt and eventually defeat it. Link uses the Master Sword to critically weaken it and Zelda using her power to destroy Ganon once and for all. As they have a moment to enjoy Hyrule's now peaceful state, Terrako's blessed screw used the last of its power to send Yunobo, Sidon, Teba, and Riju back to the future. Daruk and Yunobo exchange good-byes with Daruk promising to cherish the short time they had together[46] Despite his earlier timidy, Yunobo admits that it was so much fun and tell Daruk that he is the best[47] before he and the future warriors return to their future with Princess Zelda wishing them well.
In the secret DLC ending, Yunobo and Daruk are sitting on a high cliff, enjoying the view and eating their Rock Roasts. Later, he interacts with the other Champions, present and future as Terrako also interacts with and amuses them.
