In the wake of recent developer confirmations regarding the Split Timeline, theorists have branched out in a number of different directions. Though a number of splitists had predicted the Twilight Princess placement, and were thus able to retain their traditional theories, both former linearists and splitists with alternate TP placements were required to change their theories to fit with what is now accepted as fact.

Dragon Roost Cavern is the second dungeon Link visits in The Wind Waker. When Link first comes to the island, Valoo is very angry, yet the Rito who live there do not know why. Unless they can solve the problem, Valoo will not let anyone near to receive his scales, which allow the Rito to fly. Using the Grappling Hook and the weight of the slab of dried magma imprisoning Valoo's tail, Link defeated Gohma and restored peace to the island. He then received the Din's Pearl from Prince Komali as a reward for scaling the cavern.

It is highly debated whether or not Dragon Roost Island is actually the tip of Death Mountain from Ocarina of Time, as the hole that Valoo sits on originally has a ring of smoke around it. The fact that Valoo is a dragon is also interesting, as the former inhabitant of Death Mountain was Volvagia, who the Hero of Time defeated.
Strengths of the 2D Child order
*There are significant similarities between TP and ALttP.

*The resting place of the Master Sword in ALttP is accounted for in TP, and TP appears to bridge OoT and ALttP's Master Sword locations.

*Documented existence of a hero's bloodline exists in TP as well as ALttP.

*The implication of the ending of TWW is that Hyrule is gone, which would have placed the 2D games in the Child Timeline by default at the time, which can remain true until a new game indicates an alternate placement.

*Sometime between the OoT and TWW, it has been confirmed by Aonuma that at least a group of Zora evolved into Rito, and set up base at Dragon Roost Island. This timeline is in agreement with the fact that no Zora have been found in subsequent titles after TWW. However, this does not imply that all the Zora had evolved or became extinct by the time of TWW.

Strengths of the 2D Adult order
*The state of the Triforce appears to be consistent between TWW and ALttP, assuming the Triforce returns to the Sacred Realm.

Weaknesses of the 2D Adult order
*The resting place of the Master Sword in ALttP is unaccounted for in TWW.

*The sages' seal on the Sacred Realm in OoT may be difficult to connect to ALttP because Ganon from OoT is defeated in TWW, so a new seal and Ganon would have to exist (and Ganon would need to enter the SR again) for ALttP's backstory to occur, which would make the original OoT connection redundant.

*TWW's ending, and the new Hyrule of ST, indicate that no games that take place in the original Hyrule will occur after TWW, due to its destruction. This conflicts with the fact that ALttP's Hyrule is extremely similar in history, geography/landmarks and many other features, to OoT's Hyrule. This includes the Master Sword lost at the bottom of the ocean, and the Sacred Realm (and Triforce) that was linked to the old Hyrule.

*Sometime between OoT and TWW the Goron moved away from Death Mountain. This is clear as they are not present at Dragon Roost Island (which is commonly thought to be Death Mountain due to the widespread presence of Bomb Flowers and due to the presence of a mural of what appears to be Volvagia at the entrance of Dragon Roost Cavern) during TWW. In PH, it is clear that they moved to a land that would become Goron Island and Dee Ess Island in the World of the Ocean King. As a result of this no game following TWW should have Gorons at Death Mountain.

Dragon Roost Cavern is the second dungeon Link visits in The Wind Waker. When Link first comes to the island, Valoo is very angry, yet the Rito who live there do not know why. Unless they can solve the problem, Valoo will not let anyone near to receive his scales, which allow the Rito to fly.[1]

Entrance to the Cavern

The dungeon is Located within Dragon Roost Island, beyond the home of the Ritos, and is the home to the Sky Spirit Valoo.

Link first learns of the cavern from Medli, a Rito and the Great Valoo's attendant. She wishes to visit Valoo and find out why he is upset.[2] With Link's help, she reaches the cavern, and gives Link a bottle, which, with a little ingenuity, allows him access to the cavern as well (the entrance to the cavern is usually blocked by a moat; a rock, from the disturbance caused by Valoo, blocked the hole that caused the moat. So Link waters a bomb flower and blew up the rock).

 • The background music in Dragon Roost Cavern is a remix of the Dodongo Cavern and Death Mountain Crater background music, further supporting its connection to Death Mountain.
 • It is also to note that at the entrance of Dragon Roost Cavern there is a mural on the wall of a green dragon that appears to be Volvagia
 • Dragon Roost Cavern contains many cliff areas outside of the cavern which are still considered part of the dungeon (they appear on the dungeon map.) This makes The Wind Waker the fourth Zelda game to feature exterior areas in a dungeon (in Link's Awakening the Eagle's Tower dungeon had an exterior boss room, the Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time had outdoor courtyards, and in Majora's Mask, Stone Tower Temple had an open roof in many rooms, although the dungeon still technically always took place inside the temple.)
