The Deku King is a character in Majora's Mask.[1]
Biography[]
The Deku King is the monarch of the Deku Kingdom, who resides in the Deku Palace with his daughter, the Deku Princess.[2][3] He is described as being rash,[4] over-reactive, and overprotective.
When the Deku Princess goes missing, the Deku King quickly blames her disappearance on a Monkey, who was actually trying to help the princess reach the Woodfall Temple to find the cause of the recent swamp poisoning. The King imprisons the Monkey in a cage in the Deku Palace and welcomes any Deku Scrub who wants to watch the Monkey being punished.[5][6] After Link manages to sneak in while in his Deku form and talks to the imprisoned Monkey, he is taught the "Sonata of Awakening" by the creature. However, since that melody is only known by the Deku Royal Family, the King mistakenly takes this as further proof that the Monkey deceived the princess so he could enter the Woodfall Temple, and thus begins the Monkey's punishment while Link is taken away by the Deku Guards.[7]
After Link rescues the Deku Princess from Woodfall Temple, the princess becomes enraged at her father for hastily locking up the Monkey and orders that he be released instantly. The Deku King, glad that his daughter is safe,[8] realizes his mistake and releases the prisoner Monkey.[9] The King is last seen during the ending credits alongside the Deku Princess, the Monkey, and the palace guards.
